What are we thinking in terms of the hierarchy here? Multiple communities on this instance, or just one community and consolidate into posts for topics?

Whatever you want. Since its a semi-private instance you can create and moderate your own communities.

Curious because I'm new.... What makes the instance semi-private? Is it just that the instance is small, or is there a setting that makes finding things harder for other instances?
