The Golden Rule: Music taste is subjective so don't be a gatekeeping asshole. There's no "bad music", only music you like or don't like.

Says a lot about the state of alternative music that two-thirds of these groups have been making music for over a decade.

Edit: actually says a lot more about the state of music awards. There's plenty of great alternative groups right now, but the industry just refuses to recognize them and keeps propping up these zombies of bands. Arctic Monkeys nominated for best act of 2023?? Are you kidding me? They aren't even the best act of their own shows.

It’s the Grammys, so that’s not unexpected!

Because I knew nothing about the nomination and award process, I looked it up. Seems reasonably cromulent, actually. Of course, there could be all sort of hidden machinations.

New arctic monkeys is super interesting artistically if you haven't given it a chance.

Strongly disagree. They're The Strokes 2.0 without any teeth and an even worse habit or making shitty radio rock singles

Have you listened to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino front to back? It's a great story to listen to that flows super well with a ton of underlying tones.

Tranquility Base... & The Car are best listened to all the way through. The songs are good, but somehow better with the whole album around them.

[–] Raab@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah it's a full experience, and that's how it was meant to be listened to. At least someone gets it.

[–] MuffinMangler@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You obviously haven't listened to The Car.

You mean the album where three creatively bankrupt artists try to do David Bowie with a bargain bin Portishead knock off in the middle?

[–] Raab@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

I'm starting to think you just have poor taste.

I saw the Arctic Monkeys at Red Rocks, for me it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Crowd was mellow still a great performance.

For reference, this was last year's list…the first time they doled out in this category.
