It seems Chris Pratty indirectly confirmed a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie is in the works according to an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

We (Me, wife and kids) loved the movie, can't wait for a sequel.

There's a lot that they can do with the story, but it seems they have shown pretty much every game in the movie, would be interesting to see what they do with it.

Gonna need a guest appearance by Wart to make it truly “2”

My friend took his four-year-old and two-year-old to the first movie expecting to have to leave early because of the kids’ behavior. They actually were enthralled enough by the movie to sit through the whole movie seated and we’ll behaved.

That's cool. I guess maybe because it's Mario which has wide appeal in general but also because Mario typically features lots of colors, as kids generally like colors.
