Do you watch any of the other Taskmaster versions?

We watch the UK one (of course), plus the NZ one in my house (their second series is brilliant). I tried the US one but I'm not sure I even got through the first episode.

I've heard that the Norwegian (or was it the Danish?) Taskmaster was good but I haven't tried yet. There's quite a few to chose from now, too many for me to try myself.

I've watched the NZ and Australian versions, both highly entertaining.

I just started the NZ one. It feels off initially, but it's quickly growing on me

Series 2 is absolute chaos. It's incredible.

If you want more of the chaotic energy you should check out Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont Spelling bee.

The show is designed to devolve into madness.

I'll have to try again, I tried watching it and it felt like a budget Alex and Gregg.

The comedians.werent very funny and the jokes just fell flat. It felt almost American.

I didnt particularly like the Aussie one, it wasnt bad, just didnt have the same vibe that the UK one had. The banter felt more like straight bullying, and the contestants seemed to be trying too hard to be funny/edgy/interesting.

Ill still watch next season if it comes out though, maybe they were just warming up.

That just seems so quintessentially Aussie to me.

I hope we aren't seen that way :( I'd like to beleive that we are capable of being closer to the UK level of friendly banter (its equally possible i am misinterpreting the UK banter as being more friendly than it is). I think its just season 1 jitters, amd possibly some poor casting?

I am watching season 9 UK and it just feels like there is no single person who is constantly the butt of the joke, even Greg is made fun of fairly regularly.

I can only speak for the swedish version, and while it's not quite on par with the UK one it's still pretty good. "Bäst i test"

Does Fred the Swede at least have a cameo at some point?

[–] Cavemanfreak@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Haha, unfortunately I don't think so.. They do have an Icelandic guy they use sometimes though.

You should definitely give the NZ and Australian versions a watch.

I watched the Belgian one and it just wasn't great. The contestants were off. The older woman just got increasingly annoyed by the concept the further she got in the series. The host's scripted segments were also incredibly lame. They did a thing where the fifth contestant is someone else every week so there's no overall winner. It should be noted that this version was made for a channel that wants everybody to watch their shows. They also didn't create their own tasks.

I gave the US Taskmaster a try but couldn't get into it. Lisa Lampanelli continued swearing, was aggravating as it was too much. If I remember correctly, she tended to interrupt others and appeared to deliberately stir up conflicts with people. It was very off putting.

I oddly can't remember if I watched the first episode of NZ Taskmaster or not. Is it worth a watch?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

I don't give a shit if anyone swears, but she was just annoying to the point that the show was unwatchable.

NZ Taskmaster is pretty solid. The host is kind of a dud, but the "assistant" is brilliant, and NZ comedians are somehow always a hoot.

New Zealand is amazing. Their host and assistant are my favourite, and I love all four casts so far

Australia was too basic in tone. I think they miscast their taskmaster

I keep meaning to try the Francophone Quebec one since it's easy to stream in Canada, but I haven't

Hi, American here. I've never heard of Taskmaster before until I visited England for the first time this past summer. I loved relaxing in the hotel room after a day of walking with so many great shows! TM was definitely the best and I must have watch all of series 8 through reruns on Dave while there. I could not believe that there were other versions, including American! Looks like it was a bomb, and I hate Lisa Lampanelli, so I won't be looking that one up. I'm now on series 10 of the UK version and will be looking up the NZ and Australian runs as well! Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
