The FA Cup is fine on its own. We don't need the EFL Cup too. Most clubs priorities the FA Cup way more, it's a more prestigious prize and the tournament has way more fixtures. Clubs also prioritise league matches over the EFL Cup anyway, so the EFL just adds to the fixture congestion of a lot of teams. Players are getting injured across every team anyway.

During a busy fixture schedule, clubs have to put together a team to play in the EFL cup midweek whilst trying to save their best players for the important league match 3 days later, but also trying not to get humiliated too badly in a Cup game that most teams don't really care too much about.

Karma-farming opinion.

[–] StandardConnect@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

No. It's an extra chance of a trophy and frankly any team not named City should be aiming to get any trophy they can get their hands on.

Horrible Opinion

Tell me you support a Premier League club without telling me you support a Premier League club.

There is no guarantee that removing the League Cup will give players more rest days. The FA and TV companies will shoe-horn ways to include more fixtures.

if there weren’t too many games already i’d love to replace the carabao cup with an all-UK tournament. Would be cool to see Rangers and Celtics compete with Prem teams

[–] ChubbyChris@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Or make it a leagues cup, pit English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish teams against one another. Would increase interest in the contest.

It's another way for smaller trams to generate revenue by getting a potential away day at a big team or even better generate support by going on a successful cup run.

[–] fanoftrees_6@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

fully agree, it's a dumb competition nobody cares about until the final, just schedule congestion.

[–] Known-Classroom-7939@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Let the smaller teams dream a little, and also make a bit of money

It would be really cool if the EFL cup turned into a youth only type tournament. Like you could only have 3-4 players over the age of 23 or something. Would be so much more worthwhile and fun for the fans to watch and great development.

So like the u21s league we currently have?

[–] Ilkley_dipper@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

On the basis Premier League clubs hate it, it should be maintained. Far too much reform is solely for the benefit of the wealthiest.

I would rather they scrapped nonsensical pre season tours to the other side of the world.

[–] theipd@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I think that they should exclude the Top 4 or Top 8 teams from the previous season from the Premier League. There’s absolutely no money in it for the big teams and it used to serve as a springboard for the bench. However Man City and now others have joined in saying it’s a trophy and they want to win it at all costs, so they put their best players on and the reserves or lower division players cannot compete.

It’s a tournament for reserves and 2nd/3rd tier clubs. It really would be cool if it stayed that way.

I like the cup but think it would be interesting if it was for the championship and leagues below that. Guarantee a not PL winner (coming from a PL fan).

[–] Chin238@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Disagree, it's a competition English clubs use to play younger academy players. English clubs a more reluctant to play them in the league because of the finances on offer. League Cup allows young british players the chance to impress in senior football. Without it you'd only really have the FA CUP but teams tend to play more first teamers in it depending on the draw as its more prestigious. Plus it's good for lower league teams to get extra revenue in.

Let me guess, foreign fan with no real attachment to their club?

[–] youraveragefailure12@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Bro supports prolly Liverpool cuz the beatles are from There and played as them in fifa career mode guarentee

[–] WorldCupBro@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Even though I am for smaller clubs unfortunately it will probably cease to exist soon. They already stopped playing the league cup in France.

[–] DoNotPassGogh@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I think the idea is the media equivalent of cancer considering the understatement that the English value their heritage.

[–] Malimalata@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I think they should make it to include teams from other british leagues

[–] PersianGuitarist@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Maybe have some grouped league cups. Grouped in the sense of England + Scotland, Spain + Portugal, France + Netherlands etx

[–] ThatInterest9275@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

championship clubs play 46 times a year yet they dont complain

[–] PakLivTO@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

My wild take is that the league cup should be 5 a side indoor futsal. 1000% I’m watching that.

[–] Automatic_Ask_5488@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

So basically you want every single club below the top 10 premier league sides to go bust. The league cup literally saves so many clubs from entering administration every single year. You might think it means nothing and isn't needed, but now think about the revenue that helps the likes of Mansfield, Accrington, AFC Wimbledon and so many others stay afloat.

And to clarify I am a Liverpool supporter, and LFC don't really need the league cup, but other clubs certainly need the boost financially and morally of playing a huge game against Liverpool, especially if it's on TV.

[–] GuinnessRespecter@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I'm a Liverpool fan, and I totally and unironically love the League Cup. We've had some great times in it, and I think that more non top 6 sides should really look to compete to win it as much as possible.

It's over by March for one and sometimes as early as February. The toughest turnaround for games is the 2 legged semi-final, and by then, any teams left in it are surely thinking they can lift it, or at least get to Wembley anyway. As a supporter, why wouldn't you want those experiences?

I know it's not the biggest honour to win, but trust me, the dopamine hit you get for a couple of days from winning it is a not to be sniffed at, especially coming out of the dark winter months.

[–] adjectivenounnr@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

José Mourinho: “It's not the premiership, it's not the FA cup, it's not the champions league but its still a cup and we must respect it — it’s the first winnable trophy every year [with the final in February], and provides the confidence to the boys that they are champions.”

[–] Cult_Of_Harrison@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Absolute nonsense.
