If you’re including games based on movie properties and not the movies themselves, it’s KOTOR and Chronicles of Riddick for me.

[–] leafsfall5@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mad Max is decent.

Peter Jackson's King Kong the official game of the movie. The only thing I can complain about is the name.

The Mummy Demastered

[–] Trickster289@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The 2009 Ghostbusters game was pretty good. They got the original cast back to voice their characters and the script took ideas they had for Ghostbusters 3.

[–] pilgrimteeth@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wow, I didn’t know this about that game. Time to give it a looksie…

[–] iaijutsu08@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The 1980s Ghostbusters game was a heap of fun too, for its time.

The Owls of Ga'hoole. I bought it as a goof, turns out it has the best aerial melee combat I've ever seen in a game, and it is a totally separate story from the movie.

The Ghostbusters game, the one with the rookie that is. Many including myself consider it the official Ghostbusters 3

The Lord Of The Rings, The Return Of The King and Alien Isolation

[–] Stolehtreb@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I really like Alien Isolation, but it’s more based on the world Ridley Scott created. I wouldn’t say it’s based on a movie. But maybe I’m being too pedantic.

Literally what I came here for

Mummy Returns is probably the best game made of a BAD movie.

[–] JudasBC@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (6 children)

GoldenEye is the benchmark in this regard, I know it's aged poorly but the impact it had can't be understated

[–] Amopax@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You mean “can’t be overstated”, probably.

[–] awesomface@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's the only game that's surpassed the movie's popularity.

Someone already said Chronicles of Riddick, but I gotta cosign, best movie videogame ever.

Just a great game. The license is almost incidental...its a great game first, that just happens to be a movie tie in.

The Mumy Demastered is very good.

[–] Sicktoyou@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Spiderman 2 on GameCube really felt incredible. Plenty of awesome techniques you could get.

[–] JediGRONDmaster@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

LotR: the 2 towers and return of the king are pretty great

What about the Witcher series?

Update: Nvm, it's the opposite

[–] Creski@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

There have been a few actually

Chronicles of Riddick

Many...many Star Wars games pre-disney KOTOR specifically

Lord of the Rings Two Towers and return of the king (games begging for a remaster at this point)

Alien Isolation

Goldeneye

The Warriors

Goldeneye 007 was the turning point, I'll venture. Not only was it good, it was marked for greatness - although looking back, it more because of Rare's talent and that amazing multiplayer combined with the N64's in-built four player capabilities. It was the right game, made by the right developers, for the right system, at the right time.

After that, take your pick. Chronicles of Riddick, Alien Isolation, the various Star Wars games like Rogue Squadron... there was that King Kong game Peter Jackson was involved in too.

[–] Majestic_Drop_8769@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The Lego games follow the media they're based on very closely

the Peter Jackson King Kong game was shockingly good

[–] Wes___Mantooth@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That game was scary as fuck to me when I was a kid. All those bugs, bats, and dinosaurs that you had to fight with spears and super limited ammo.

[–] Xenozip3371Alpha@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Well it has to be Spider-Man 2 overall, nothing else comes close.

My own personal favourite though, is actually Shrek 2 on PS2, it was a really fun game.

[–] ToeKneeTea@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I liked enter the matrix as a kid

[–] A_Wild_VelociFaptor@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just before my time but surely it's Goldeneye, right?

[–] 80sBadGuy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I used to think The Warriors, lol. Probably Mad Max.

[–] earhere@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Die Hard Arcade, though it doesn't follow the movie at all

[–] NeoNemeses@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Warriors

[–] PrescottEagle@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I loved Madagascar 2 on the Wii

The Spongebob Movie game on Gamecube was great

[–] warlordwinters@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
