Tears of the Kingdom I should have bought the resident evil 4

I'm a little disappointed in Starfield, but still got over 100 hours of entertainment from it. To me, Red Fall was the most disappointing. I was really excited to give it a try only to find out it was total garbage in every respect.
I might be the only person who says this. I don't think I had any disappointments this year. This is the one year that was different because I went in with an open mind and kept my expectations very low. This ultimately led to me enjoying all the games I've played this year. Even Redfall. Doing this allowed me to get the maximum enjoyment from the games. Could some be better? Yeah, but still no disappointments. Not falling for the hype from the companies or fans and just playing for myself if it caught my attention helped tremendously.
For me it's BG3. I just found it boring.
Starfield. Fuckin donkey of a game
Starfield. The amount of care that went into creating an immersive world wasn't present like in previous Bethesda titles.
Final Fantasy 16
Diablo 4 for me. Long time fan and they hyped me up so much about returning to their roots and it was literally the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. D4 is where I said to myself “they’re just a different company now.”
Now they have me absurdly hyped for season of discovery, and I’m roped right back in. This one seams good, though🤞
Remnant 2
How could a game called "Endless Dungeon" be so short?
Starfield is 100% the correct answer.
Red fall was never going to be good. It always looked bad since they announced it.
Atomic heart never looked like a real game more just a rtx showcase.
Forespoken always looked bad since first announcement.
Why didn’t they just use the same formula with Starfield?! They would have had at least a pretty solid game.
Starfield. I can only hope for mods and DLCs to breathe more life into it.
Starfield for me. I was super excited for it, bought a Xbox series x for it and was let down. I played through the campaign and a lot of the big quests but ultimately just felt let down by the gameplay. Seemed empty and like it was missing the magic that Skyrim had
I'm waiting for Bethesda support to hop in here and start commenting how the game is actually really good
Wouldn’t call it disappointing but for as much as I loved playing Hogwart’s Legacy it felt like a missed opportunity. Wish there had been a morality system (not an original critique I know) and wish some game play elements were more varied and that quidditch could have been played. Been months since I last played so can’t remember all the things…overall phenomenal writing and characters and a lot of fun to play but felt like there was still so much left out.
Kong island
I still can't believe payday 3 is out
I hate to beat a dead horse but for me it was definitely starfield. Most of the other bad games this year I didn't have any Interest in or didn't expect to be good but part of me genuinely felt like starfield might be good.
Then I played it, stuck with it until it got "good" and still didn't enjoy it that much.
Yeah, Starfield, was really looking forward to it, played it for a week and uninstalled it, really glad it was on game pass, I'd have been gutted if I bought it!
Red fall I guess
Starfield by an AU
Final Fantasy 16.
At this point any plans for new entries should become exactly that, final. What a terrible fall from grace slowly these past years.
Destiny 2, it’s just been almost all downhill all year round.
Gollum! Was hoping for a good LOTR game to sink my teeth into.
#Payday 3
DAAAAMN. I'm looking down at the comments and no terf game? Damn. It's THAT bad?
I know this is a minority opinion, but I didn't like BG3 in the slightest. Clunky interface and dreadful combat.
Unpopular answer: Spider-Man 2. I completed 100% in just over 25 hours. Seemed so much shorter than the first one.
Atomic Heart, Redfall, Starfield, and Spider Man 2 are the most disappointing games of 2023 that I’ve purchased, played, and dropped.
Most enjoyable game for me was Tears of the Kingdom.
Most surprising games that I tried and ended up enjoying are Baulders Gate 3, and Armored Core 4. I’m not into DND and I was really worried for AC since it’s been 2 decades since the last good one. Glad they both put a smile on my face.
Most anticipated but didn’t live up to my expectations has to go to Final Fantasy XVI, I finished it, I had fun but it was whatever.
This is my list based on games I’ve played myself, there was a lot of games that game out this year that I just haven’t had a chance to go through.
Redfall and Starfield
Mortal Kombat 1
Shit GOTY will be:………. GOLLUM
I love starfield its like skyrim, fallout, and no mans sky had a amazing baby.
Atomic Heart, Armored Core, Meet your Maker, Starfield, Mortal Kombat 1; all imo just pretty lame; not worth more than maybe 15 hours of play.
On the other hand there’s some super dope games that have come out this year too, I actually think it’s been one of the best years in recent memory.
Gotta be Starfield for me, what a boring game.
Destiny 2.
Lightfall was a big disappointment and the seasons are getting stale as fuck.
Destiny 2
Sad to see almost every major release this year show up in this thread.
For me personally Lords of the Fallen. I was only mildly excited until nearly every soulstuber convinced me it was the second coming. Didn't even finish it.
To be disappointed one should put faith in something. I have no such weaknesses. For new games at least. However this year was full of pleasant surprises for me.
Kerbal space program 2
What's the thing you didn't like with Tactica? I love P5 and tactic games as well.
For me, the most disappointing game this year is FFXVI mainly becausethe gameplay is too shallow and linear for me. It was hyped so much because it's a mainline FF game with legendary FF14 director behind it. The poor optimization didn't help as well. Frame drops when exploring then 60 fps on combat but on 720p resolution? I won't comment on the story as I didn't finish it but for a PS5 exclusive game and being a massive franchise, it's super disappointing.
Gonna get downvoted for this, but Spider-Man 2
Great gameplay, bad story
It just wasn’t enough in my opinion, having two protagonists spit the narrative in half and made each lead feel underdeveloped compared to how they were developed in their own games.
Venom/carnage is the Least interesting Spider-Man villain in my opinion, vervet cared for symbiote story in the comics and it doesn’t feel new here. Peter gets venom -> Peter gets addicted -> now he has to fight venom after his separation.
I’m salty they killed off so many characters off screen
I think for how excited I was for it, I have to go with Wo Long Fallen Dynasty. I definitely wouldn't call it bad, in fact it's quite fun, but it's a drastic step down from Nioh 2. There's so little variety in how combat works which is so uncharacteristic of Team Ninja's recent games. I definitely had a good time playing it, enough that I beat the base game, but the initial demo set my expectations way higher than what the game delivered.
Cyberpunk 2077.
I started to play it about 1 month ago. I know the mess that was on launch and I know that 2.0 + Liberty City overhauled the entire game but damn, it's so easy/lacking that it hurts.
The game is literally called cyberpunk and it has all the cyber, none of the punk. One of the 1st quest you get is paying Victor 21k and in my head I though "oh shit, this is going to be a VERY long quest and I'm gonna get dry trying to pay him, awesome!" and less than... 25 minutes? into the game I already had more than 80k.
There's a HUGE disconnect between the state of the world/what the game/characters tell you (in other words everyone is suffering while the corporations are taking everything) and your character. Money in the game is useless, not because of that but because 99% of stuff you can buy is garbage.
It makes no sense to buy any weapon because random loot will always by 1000000000000% better than whatever are in shops. You can buy clothes and even that is useless because you get so many clothes that it's also pointless. The same is with everything else. At the end I had more than 5 million and nothing to spend it.
The issue with that is that from the get go, I saw the huge flaws of the story. Also the gameplay stales SUPER quickly because the enemies are stupid and any "difficult" enemy is just a bullet sponge. Also the ending of the DLC made me dislike almost all characters, thank god I made a previous save and skipped those garbage endings.
Having said that: V and Johnny are the best thing of the game, specially Johnny. By far one of my favorite characters ever in gaming.
If you want a real cyberpunk experience play neofeud. Even tho that game is problematic, it has lots of bugs and sometimes is straight up garbage it has the heart, soul and punk that cyberpunk 2077 lacks.
My hot take for reddit is Armored Core 6.
It checked all the boxes I thought I wanted in a game. Giant mecha? Check. Series I used to love in high school? Check. Fromsoftware, a development team I trust? Check.
And I just didn't enjoy the game. Was kind of fun for the first few missions. Got to Balteus and that fight is just so heinous un-fun I uninstalled the game. Eventually reinstalled it because I mean I spent money on the title. Beat the boss. But whatever fondness I had from the first few stages was gone. By the time I beat the second big boss Sea Spider, I just tapped out and had to admit the game wasn't for me.
Starfield without any competition. If I could turn back time and get my money back I would in a heartbeat. There’s nothing redeeming about that game to me.
Starfield.
For me, there are two easy choices. I was so hyped for Final Fantasy 16, and I stopped playing a little over halfway through. The cutscenes and boss fights were epic, but I hated most other aspects of the game. Easy, repetitive combat, boring sidequests.
The other one was Forspoken. I was really looking forward to it based on the trailer. Then I played the demo/trial. I could not stand the dialogue between the main character and her bracelet thing. Glad I didn't pay for that one.
