A game that came to my mind for me when it comes to being shitty but has probably the best soundtrack setlist in the series is Megaman X6, arguably one of the worst Megaman game in comes to gameplay and difficulty, but one thing that makes it crazy is the soundtrack, it's varied and they slap much harder than even the first Megaman X

Bloodrayne was nothing special (I still enjoyed it) but the soundtrack was amazing.

Almost every modern Sonic games

I don't know if the soundtrack itself applies but the pause music to Battletoads still slaps.

Megamari was dreadful to play but love listening to the soundtrack

[–] CraneStyleNJ@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

TMNT on NES. The game was bad in a sense that it was too damn hard for kids who were fans of the series (like me) but my god do I love the soundtrack!

Maybe that's what kept us playing?

I wouldn't say it's shitty, but it's nothing to write home about. Its soundtrack however is topnotch: Bomberman Hero

[–] hootie_hatch_061@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mutant Mudds. It’s not a terrible game but pretty boring. The soundtrack is one of the best I’ve ever heard though.

Zero Divide

I wouldn't say its shitty, just a average run of the mill fighter with Robots.

What sets it out however, is the music, its a goddamn incredible soundtrack, with trance, rock, and atmospheric tracks that really set it apart from the fighters of the time.

[–] OllyDee@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’d definitely say Zero Divide 1 and 2 are better than average. They run on the same game engine as Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter.

Call of Jaruez 3: The Cartel. the game is complete dogshit but the music is just awesome

SRW A Portable. The graphics are updated, the soundtrack remixed, the cutscenes skippable... and the enemy dodge rate got buffed to an average of 80%, with one boss having 100% dodge rate, and another boss got millions of health and healing more than a million a turn (not exaggerated).

Jet grind radio.

Looking back, the gameplay was kinda weak. Not bad, but there’s not much to the game. You basically just have jump and spray. You can’t really do any tricks and there isn’t much of any depth to the gameplay when compared to tony hawk games of the time. Spraying graffiti is on the whole uninteresting.

The soundtrack and atmosphere 100% make the game

FF14. The soundtrack is carrying the game.

Childish plot, useless cut-scenes, poor game systems. but you fight big boss with cool music.

[–] Pringle_Power@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Curious how far into FF14 did you play?

FF13. Hated the game but the music was great

[–] hidden_secret@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It definitely wasn't shitty when it came out, but let's be honest in terms of fighting games that evolve in a 3D space, it has aged pretty quickly and pretty badly... Battle Arena Toshinden has an absolutely amazing soundtrack.

Still one of my favorite OST from any game.

Sonic forces

Drakengard 3 for sure. Interesting plot, great characters, PHENOMENAL soundtrack, but the game itself is a buggy, terribly optimised disaster. Probably one of the most deserving games of a full remake and I'm kind of hoping after they remade NieR that they'll go on to do at least Drakengard 1 and 3, although I doubt it.

Silent Hill: Homecoming is also a very good shout. Awful game, great soundtrack. Maybe include Silent Hill 4: The Room since people either hate it or love it (personally I think it's flawed but redeemable) but the OST is peak Yamaoka/McGlynn territory.

Also personally I really didn't get on with Risk of Rain at all but that game also has a stellar OST.

Xenogears. I'm in the minority in that I wasn't really enjoying the game even before the infamous moment where its budget disappears, but Yasunori Mitsuda never disappoints.

Curse on the Mega Drive/Genesis. While the programmers were guessing their way through a very bad shoot ‘em up, the sound artists didn’t get that memo and wrote an OST of catchy bangers. Shit man, even the cover art is top tier. Unlike the game, which is shit.

Mafia III

I think they spent their budget on licensing songs instead of game development.

Grandia Xtreme. I loved that game so much as a teen but I was well aware how bad it was. I have one of its boss themes as my ringtone today.

Sorry objection, i love X6, not as good as X4 and X5 but definitely better than 7 and 8

war thunder, no game is more rage inducing when your round disappears our your SAM deciding to yeet itself into a tree, but man Tue soundtrack just gets better the longer it plays.

[–] jeremy7007@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I heard Various Daylife has a pretty decent soundtrack, with all the comfort, grandeur and excitement you'd expect from a Square Enix jrpg. Too bad the gameplay is also what you'd expect from a game called Various Daylife.

[–] Tsjanith@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Braid.

I know it's highly acclaimed, but it just overall feels like a clunky, boring, pretentious self-congratulatory mess to me. I hate it.

Great soundtrack though

DotA 2, I both love and hate it do much, my teams can be muted, but music stay at 100%
