For me this is the crucial moment when Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2, finds out he has TB... What about you?

In silent hill 4 the room...Seeing that creature with 2 baby heads attached to a torso that walks with its hands, constantly crying. I can never forget about meeting that thing for the 1st time. Couldnt finish the game after.

Gaining my first power in starfield I felt like I had the answers to life in the game

[–] thelingletingle@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Then you did it 24 to 240 more times…

0100am Max Payne walking the blood path in a dream sequence and unexpectedly hearing a baby crying.

Literally had to mute the tv, that scream made my blood curdle

Opening scene of BioShock, where you arrive at Rapture.

Halo Reach Jorge’s moment. “We all make it sooner or later. Better get going, Six, they're gonna need you down there. Listen, Reach has been good to me. Time has come to return the favour. Don't deny me this. Tell 'em to make it count."

Two similar moments of exiting the sewers and shelter in Fallout 3 and Oblivion was just a stop and stare moment.

Breath of Fire IV has this scene where you find princess Elina. Your party has been searching for this girl for the entire game up to this point. You learn about various things that the empire has been doing. For example, one of their most awful war contraptions is a cannon that fires a hex that decimates a land and renders it completely cursed. The ammo used for it is the negative emotions gain after repeated torture on a person. The result of this usually kills the person, and it is said someone with relation to the area targeted is best as well. Anyways, the empire we find out also kidnapped the princess and experimented with her in order to make her into an Endless. Essentially a god with immortality. With such a being, they can use the hex cannon as many times as they want. The body horror that is shown when Elina removes her sheets to show you what her body has morphed into has stayed with me for over two decades.

Rdr1 when you first cross over into mexico and that song plays

Have to be one of many.

Arthur Morgan in RDR2 in his final moments. Never has a game touch me so badly.

Felt like I genuinely lost a friend.

In CastleVania Lord of shadows, the first one.

You begin the game as a person that fights evil. You go through many environments for a while, fighting monsters.

Then you get into the maze, at the end of it, you turn a corner and you hear in the soundtrack a bell from a bell tower but at the same time you see the Castle being revealed.

You finally reached the point where you will go into that castle. I remember having a huge rush of nostalgia at that moment. The timing of that bell and the reveal was absolutely perfect.

A couple from Spec Ops: The Line.

The white phosphorus section, naturally, as you walk through the aftermath.

Then the ending when the whole story unravels and you realize the truth about the mission. You feel like you lose just about everything physically and mentally just to make it to the end and... there's no payoff. No feeling of success. I felt so betrayed by the game.

Dragon Age Inquisition: the last conversation you have in the Trespasser dlc with Solas. Mass Effect 2: Mordins personal quest where he is confronted with the effects of the Genophage. Final Fantasy 15: the campfire scene at the end of the game. Persona 5: Maruki asking you to choose between fantasy and reality. Final Fantasy 14: Ardbert saying “We fight as one” at the end of Shadowbringers.

Call of Duty 2. One of the Soviet missions, where you get to counter attack whilst your commissar is blowing the whistle. Still return to that video from time to time to witness the epicness that the 12 y/o me saw

When I was just a lad and beat Halo CE; Cortana says "Halo. It's finished", in response Chief says "No, I think we're just getting started", then he takes off his helmet but his face is obscured by the ship as the camera zooms out.. and the music from that moment and the entire game. That shit gave me chills and stuck with me since.

My first run in with a face hugger in Half life Alyx VR was today, it felt like the life was being sucked out of me 😜👍

The ending of that dead space game, what with the needle and the eye. Oh fuck, that was horrifying

[–] controversialupdoot@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Half Life. The resonance cascade was one thing, but more of a what the hell is happening, this is super weird kind of moment.

But the single best moment is when the tentacle smashes through the glass and carries that scientist kicking and screaming out the window. I was fucking terrified. I remember trying to go back on myself, sneaking around and failing, absolutely shitting myself as you have to go round and round the inside of the blast chamber with the three tentacles gunning for you.

Brilliant game design. It was the first non-cutscene event I'd ever seen. So so cool and really immersed you in the story. No longer is it a run down the hallway guns blazing to the next epic cutscene. The big danger is happening to the space you are in. It's difficult to describe, as before that games were almost simplistic and didn't carry your emotions.

I agree with Arthur getting TB that got me, but I still can't get over the "Remember no Russian" mission in call of duty mw2, there's so much to unpack in that especially to someone from an Eastern European country that was under control by Russia not long ago, and now it's even more relevant with what Russia is doing these days.

The start of mission 3 in Homeworld. The slow pan to see your planet burning, the raw emotion in Fleet Control's voice, and the slow swelling music of Agnus Dei. One of the first huge gaming guy punches I ever experienced.

[–] Bowserbob1979@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Thomas Was Alone. When you reach the Internet. I won't spoil it, but that game is my favorite for a reason.

[–] SilvieraRose@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Halo, the video you watch from some guy's helmet introduces the flood. Then it ending and the music starts as they start to pour towards you. Still freaks me out, but it's an awesome moment

[–] nottedsanford@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In Battlefield 1942, that moment when you first realized a jeep is the best anti-tank weapon.

Nothing before or after has ever made me feel like the ending of Bioshock: Infinite did. What an incredible arc. I always tell people it's my favorite ending of any show, movie, or game.

It's like what the ending of LOST should have been.
