Use AI to create extremely engaging enemies?
Nah, use it to do all the boring expensive shit like writing, graphics, quests, visuals, etc.
Truly the worst timeline.

For a split second, I read this as "MS is investing in AI in games". Oh well, one can dream...
Unpopular opinion - From a the standpoint of a video game consumer, I’m not as pessimistic as everyone else commenting here.
Let’s leave aside the very valid significant concerns about the negative impacts/disruptions of AI on the economy, society, etc.
Consumers will (I hope) still demand games that are interesting and fun.
I think AI can play a big role in generating content that is curated, corrected and approved by developers (as opposed to being generated on the fly with no quality control)
Remember that generative AI is in its infancy. AI image quality has come a long way just in the last year, and AI video generation and 3D model generation is in the works. I suspect at some point it will be able to optimize and animate models.
Basically, AI will provide souped up procedural generation.
One of the big complaints about Starfield was how generic and repetitive the planets and missions were. Pirate bases were copied and pasted onto multiple planets, down to the junk items and even the corpses etc.
AI could potentially solve this sort of problem if it’s able to generate planets and bases and populate them with quests, dialog, weapons, characters and aliens, all generated to be unique but still substantial.
Basically, I think AI has the potential to make procedural generation less generic, which I’m really looking forward to (AS A CONSUMER).
Anything is better than 343 Industries
Of course they are. They’re trying to do as little effort as possible in the game development world
People are already screaming about story because most of what they know is ChatGPT and delle. In truth there is a lot of things AI can do to improve workflows and save time.
Do you guys think people enjoy making rock textures or have time to make thousands of them? Why not make ai do it.
You can test dialogue you wrote in real time instead of booking a voice actor for next month to test a line that might get scrapped later on. You can still use trained voice actors for the final result.
Not everything is doom and gloom. And if bad games make use of it, then don’t buy them.
Y'all thought Starfield was barren and boring, now wait for every new Microsoft game to feel the same in 5 years.
Eh.
I understand that CLEARLY their current strategy isn't working.
Is this the answer though?
Dam Microsoft can't make 1 right decision even with billions of dollars
its the best decision they could make
Microsoft?! AI?! who could have seen this coming
Frankly given Forza 2023 and Starfield they should maybe focus more on quality and polishing first and foremost
This can’t backfire at all 🙃
In a parallel universe, AI used with game development has ushered in a technological revolution.
Games are able to phonetically speak your name as if you're the main character! Ai also helps with rendering your image into the game. Want to playskyrim as you? Done!
Sports games have improved immensely! With ai, more detailed algorithms take place behind the scenes to immense the gaming experience as to simulation.
Vr has gone full blown immersion, think .hack or sword art without the bs.
In this universe I also have a gf
At least we can expect finished games for once
Well, that's the future. Industrial revolution destroyed jobs, Digital revolution destroyed jobs and AI revolution will also destroy jobs. It is what it is.
Please don't I suspect a.i was already used for Starfield
I have a bad feeling about this.
I am trying to be optimistic but it’s hard. Microsoft owns a lot of game studios but somehow they cannot deliver good exclusives like PlayStation. Forza is good, besides that I cannot think of any good game that Microsoft published as exclusives on Xbox. I really wish that they turn it around and make some actually good games and this AI thing might be useful then
I predict this will result in a lot of shovelware, though I do think creative use of AI ought to be embraced, as anything else.
You know what I want to see as a feature?
Particularly for RPGs.
Imagine during the character creator, you could be shown a list of letters, numbers, words, phrases, etc that you can read out loud. Then it takes that information and creates an AI generated voice for your character that is YOUR voice.
It would be so cool, and honestly not that hard to implement at all. Definitely would be better than that dogshit we still get where some games just have 1 voice, but then pitched down lower/higher.
