I am blind ! I am deaf ! I want to be a ref !

[–] Id1ing@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Just make a rule that only captains and the player involved in an incident can approach the ref and actually enforce it with yellows and it'll soon stop. Not sure this is the right approach.

[–] CriticalNovel22@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

That's actually being trialled as well.

Although I honestly thought that had been implemented years ago and just ignored.

Yes the refs are shite, but 5 dudes surrounding and yelling in his face after a call needs to be stop.

[–] HarHenGeoAma62818@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I do understand where your coming from but what else are the players to do - the game suddenly stops then the referee tells the players what’s going on then it’s a constant game of waiting

[–] callmemacready@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

only Captains should be able to confront the ref like that and thats when he calls them over

[–] Baumtasia@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I play rugby but much prefer watching football and the difference in how the players treat the referees is insane, I remember hearing a story about a rugby player switching to football and getting a yellow card for calling the referee ‘sir’ because the referee thought he was taking the piss

Absolutely get to fuck

[–] Spiritual_Repair_459@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

It’s just another thing that will cause controversy

[–] wolfhelp@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Ref's and VAR can't even consistently implement the existing rules. How is adding another going to help?

What a shit show

I very much like the idea that something different is being considered.

It works very well in indoor soccer (not to be confused with futsal), so give it a go at the outdoor game.

[–] MrVegosh@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I’m sure this will be whistled equally

Is this like a penalty box for getting a yellow card, as opposed to the current punishment which is nothing?

[–] TinyFerret494@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Basically. It's an idea taken from rugby where after a player gets a yellow card they get sent to the 'sin bin' for like 8-10 minutes. It a lot like the penalty box in ice hockey.

[–] Clem_Crozier@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I like the idea. I just have very little faith that it would be used fairly and consistently.

Power plays in football now lol ?

[–] parkerblackforces@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

games gone soft

[–] TheBarnacle63@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Pop everyone of them with a caution. Put up with two weeks of hell, and eventually it stops. The laws already exist. No new rules needed.

[–] maxwms@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Good, should also give a red card to all the whiny cunts crying to the ref like a child that doesn’t get their candy. Pathetic clowns the lot of them

[–] ImOnRedditMaaan@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

So are we introducing fighting like hockey then?

[–] Hechie@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Been asking for This for years!

[–] KilllerWhale@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

That would definitely increase risk of injuries

[–] i_like_cakess@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yup, yellow card is definitely too small penalty.

I was thinking of giving 1 match ban after 2 or 3 yellows instead of 5. It's much easier to implement than sin bin, although sin bin has direct impact on the game foul was made, so if implemented correctly it could be better.

That's a big if though

[–] LawProfessional6513@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I’m all for testing it if it avoids giving out so many reds, loads of games have been ruined by sending offs + I think we should revisit suspensions.

Getting sin binned or sent off is punishment enough + it’s so easy getting a yellow now that we are seeing a ton of suspensions earlier and earlier every season and the biggest clubs with the most depth are the ones which can deal with suspensions better. The goal should be to try and make sure we are getting the best/fairest games possible
