If you're experiencing a toxic community environment when playing single player games... You got issues that you need to address yourself.

As for MMO. FFXIV is clearly head and shoulders above most in terms of community.

Last time I had a super blast was battle front 2 over covid

[–] yatne@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Doom. The classic ones. 30 years old and the community is still strong and healthy

[–] Comprehensive_Lemon5@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Rust without a doubt

[–] TheGreatSciz@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Dark souls before elden ring came out. That game was contentious and kind of tore the community apart.

Minecraft! At least based on the YouTube content and discord servers for those folks.

I found the Warframe community to be very kind and helpful. They just seem happy to see people get into the game.

Outer wilds

[–] Prestigious-Call-311@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Got to be battle brothers for me

[–] InstructionFit950@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I played warframe for like 3-6 months a while back and its easily one of the best communities ive ever interacted with extremely helpful and kind people for the most part very funr experience but the game itself got too grindy for me so i eventually dropped it

[–] Knicols@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Path of Exile. People are so chill there. Share resource, chat about anything, have fun and collect item.

[–] eagleface5@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

The Mount and Blade community is awesome, especially around Bannerlord. If only everyone wasn't trying to kill their wife...

[–] MuskularChicken@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

No man's Sky. No competitive so no reason to bring down others

[–] RedDino2004@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Someone literally gave me a A+ ship for free and Like a shit Ton of Money im Not able to Spend in that Run for Like forever

[–] MuskularChicken@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Just upgrade multitool and starship inventory and having 4 bn credits will make you poor real fast lmao.

[–] RedDino2004@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

The ship already was fully upgraded or more, is, that Dude who gave me all that Had more Money in this Game you could Imagine, If i mean i have so much Money because of that Guy, then yeah i do have it lol. Nah but seriously i do have way beyond 4 bn and i dont need to Spend it on any ships anymore

[–] SpicyNoodlez1@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

From what I've seen, satisfactory

[–] SeriousJack@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Add Factorio to the list. Post a noob question? People rush to help. Post a bad design ? Upvoted. Spaghetti is awesome. Post a good design ? Upvoted. Good job.

Only times I've seen negativity is when an op try to bash the other game :D. "shut up, half the people here play both games".

[–] oldreddit_isbetter@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I dunno the debates over belt balancer designs can get pretty heated!

[–] terrendos@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

It's because you get the chance to brag about your skill at the game at the same time you help. Lots of incentive there.

[–] Vitasia@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Had to scroll way too far to see this. Unlike other MMOs, there are systems built into the game that rewards veteran players for helping newer players, creating a positive feedback loop. Yes there are the occasional jerks, but that’s a rarity in the community

[–] ogstepdad@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Agreed. I'm a bit odd too. My main games are counter strike and FFXIV (I know, I know, wtf is that combo?). But switching from counter strike to FFXIV, the change in community is insane lol. I'll go from being screamed at by some European in comp, to some lala dressed in Choco costume asking if I need help with maps/runs/gear etc lol

[–] sandwichthedog@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Animal Crossing. You can build a "restaurant" out of panels and well-placed boxes and it doesn't even look remotely like what you're building and you'll get comments like "omg that looks soooo good!" or "I NEED to try this build on my island!!!"

[–] linkling1039@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

No fucking way. AC players can be toxic as hell. There were people being bullied because they had a popular villager.

[–] DarXIV@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

AC definitely has a toxic online community outside the game. When NH came out, you couldn't say a negative thing against it without being burned as a witch.

[–] SquishyGlazedDonut@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I could say a positive thing and still get harassment. Ahem:

"I started with Ankha/Marshal/Raymond in my town! They any good?"

Then the freaks would come out of the woodwork demanding they get given them since "I don't know their worth and they deserve better than my trash borough island". Yeah okay.

[–] DarXIV@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yep, that sounds about right.

The case has "in-game purchases" on the back, and when the game launched, you could not say that there will probably be paid DLC later. The community would not allow the thought of paying more for the game without downvoting to oblivion. Behold, there was paid DLC later.

Titanfall 2 is generally the least toxic PvP FPS game I've seen (bar a few exceptions), but the influx of new players have been a bit more toxic. The community is still generally non toxic though

[–] RRIronside27@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I love titanfall but the community are toxic af. Toxic in game, toxic in the sub. It’s not the worst but definitely toxic.

[–] Matix777@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I unfortunately I have go agree. In game there is toxicity relatively often and in the community there still is the "Apex bad Titanfall good" sentiment. It's definitely better than in seriously competitive games tho

[–] NapsterKnowHow@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

This is only the case on the Northstar client imo

[–] Matix777@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I've seen some N-words thrown around in base game too, mostly right after the sale when there were most people

[–] SlickSerpent@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Notice 90% of the answers are for co-op multiplayer games rather than competitive ones. Kinda telling

[–] Qwerkie_@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I mean...duh? Isn't it pretty self explanatory that a game where people compete against each other would naturally breed more toxicity than a game where people work together

[–] SquishyGlazedDonut@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

This is it here. There's multiple factors, and they all swirl into the drain of PvP/competition

  • Rank ego. This rank means ME BETTER ME GOODER ME SUPERIOR YOU TRASH

  • Skill variances and/or bad matchmaking. There's no hope/no challenge. Feels bad unless you're a Timmy Stomper.

  • 1 or more guaranteed losers. Why waste 2 hours (MOBA theoretical) with strangers only for it to be horrible after 40 minutes, but the game holds you hostage in a hot box with at least 5 other people who want you dead and don't like you, and it only gets more irritating as time goes on? Feels bad to lose baseline, and little games do anything to massage the ego.

  • Pride. People get that MUST WIN MUST WIN mentality, and when they win? It's arrogance. When they lose, it's JUST A GAME BRO CHILL BRO IT'S NOT GETTING YOU PAID OR LAID BRO. Toxicity.

  • Status. Not rank! This is more along the MMO line of work. You have glowing flamescalibur+19, and it's peak item. You'll automically breed those who like it, and of course - toxic haters. Being ahead is something real people get toxic about when they're not ahead. Jobs, finances, and of course games lol.

Co-op dodges most of these hurdles, but even my beloved Monster Hunter has DPS parsing elitist dungheads. Thank God the game can be played solo. Pub experience was horrible and not even for carting's sake.

The Yakuza community calling most every new member of subreddit "kyodai" is wholesome af

[–] dissociater@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I don't know how they are elsewhere on the internet, but on reddit the Yakuza community is delightful.

[–] saulgoodman673@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Can’t agree from my own personal experience lol. Basically got attacked because I asked if the combat gets better.

[–] junsies@alien.top 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

BG3 has a rock-solid community. Itching to dip back into that game.

[–] junsies@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Dipped back into it!
