I’m thinking about buying a new Apple Watch series 9 for Christmas; I currently have a aluminum series 5. But should I wait for the 10 to come out, I have been watching “rumors” videos but wanted to check with this subreddit to see if anyone has thoughts or facts to share?

I had a 5 and got a 9, but has the same thought that maybe the “x” is worth waiting for. I’m glad I got a 9 because the battery life is so much better, it charges way faster, it has an O2 sensor (I learned I probably have sleep apnea), and I upgraded to the cellular version which gives more flexibility and is a safety feature.

Now that I realize the battery is completely fine with the 9, I’m glad I didn’t wait or get an ultra. The most likely major improvement with a large generation jump is improved battery life, and a somewhat different design.

There are rumors of non specific high / low blood pressure (not actual measurements), which sounds like no big deal for my use. Glucose seems to be years away still. If they blow it out of the water with the x, I’ll trade in my 9 for it, but I doubt that will be necessary.

Thanks for the feedback, I have been hearing the same rumors. Definitely upgrading for the battery life; my 5 dies before 6pm everyday. I don’t use it for anything crazy, mainly just checking messages periodically and quick message/notification replies.

My take on these purchases is if it’s before the new year, it’s a great time to buy. You maximize having the watch while it’s supported (more so for phones but I think it applies to watches as well). As it gets closer to fall, I try to wait as a new one likely comes out.

TLDR it’s a good time to buy timeline wise

Thank you for the feedback; I have been looking at those “Good times to buy” lists for Apple products and for the watch right now it says it’s a green light buy.

I have the 9 and it’s solid. As others have said the 10 won’t be coming out for almost a year. I’d say go ahead and get the 9; if the next watch turns out to be really fantastic as others have said you can trade the 9 in.

I’d wait if your watch still works. Gonna be a redesign which hasn’t happened since the series 4. (Unless you consider 1mm extra screen in series 7 a redesign)

3 got a new chip, 4 a redesign. 6 got a new chip, 7 a redesign. 9 got a new chip.

Might not mean anything, but is interesting.
