So I just got a new Apple TV (the non 4K model) and it’s working great so far except for one thing. It controls the volume on my TV but I can’t get it to turn the TV on and off. I have it hooked up via HDMI and it’s the ARC (audio return channel) port. Anyone have any tips to help it turn the tv on and off?

Here is a good Apple TV support page.

Press and hold the Power button to turn on your TV and wake your Apple TV. Press and hold the button again to turn off your TV and put your Apple TV to sleep.

If you are looking for a secondary remote with traditional buttons please check out our Button Remote for Apple TV:

On your Apple TV go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Home Theater Control > Set "Control TVs and Receivers" to ON.

Double check whether HDMI-CEC is enabled on your tv if the above doesn't work.
