Yes I do but it’s definitely not as good as gboard or swiftkey
Apple
A place for Apple news, rumors, and discussions.
It’s bad with the keyboard lag. First word never registers unless I give it two seconds.
I have never noticed that and I almost only use swipe type. Literally used it to type this reply and noticed no lag
Yes, I get this sometimes. Definitely a problem.
Absolutely. Far quicker and more accurate. Typed this out with gloves on just now.
Although, I'm not convinced ios 17 is an improvement.
I almost exclusively use swipe type. Is so much faster. After you get use to it rarely make mistakes unless I pause mid swipe
Yes, but GBoard. Apple doesn't have my native language supported yet.
I use it when I’m typing with one hand. But when I have both hands, I don’t use it.
I use it quite often, if I type using two hands the keyboard lags like crazy
It’s easy to be honest. See. Just used it now to type this
Only on the watch
Just switched from Android. I only swipe, but the apple key board sucks. Swiping works fine, but having to switch screens for commas. 😳
Heard that!!
Yes, but it works way worse than it was for years on Android.
And Gbroard for IOS is piece of garbage from 2015.
Since when have you been able to swipe? I was only thinking about it today. Use to love it on android. (Much easier as I just found out)
iOS 15 at some point added it in. Maybe even iOS 14
Wow tried this out just now .. it’s fiddly because I type faster with 2 I guess . More practice required
Not really it always seems to add letters I don't want
Does your dominant hand is also holding the phone while swiping? I'm curious because I want to try swiping, but I can't do it one hand only.
I hold and use the phone with my dominant hand
I only swipe with my dominant hand and hold it with the other hand
I don’t think it is any faster than typing with two hands (and my brain freezes if I mix both, it’s either typing every word or swiping)
I miss the good ol Nintype days where I could swipe two handed
I only use swipe to text. I remember seeing it on Android years ago and was excited when it came to iOS natively and use it all the time, I find it a lot quicker than typing normally
I don't, but as far as Apple innovations go, I am absolutely annoyed that predictive text isn't available in my language even 5 or 6 iOS generations since the feature was introduced. Proper annoying (Norwegian btw).
What the heck. Didn’t realise this was even a thing
Give it a go!
I always try to use it when I can. It’s so convenient.
I usually use it when for one handed replies. Comes in handy.
I’m intermittent. Sometimes I’ll peck into a swiped word back into pecking. I’m weird.
Haha no, I totally get that!
Yes, and I love it. After practice it's much faster than regular typing, although you do need to proof (in my experience). I wish there was a swipe-typing course like there are typing courses.
No I don’t like it, I did try it but nah not for me. Although I use it a lot on my Apple Watch it’s way more easy for the small screen.
Nope
Apple’s keyboard and autocorrect is (for some reason) much worse than android’s.
It’s the only thing I miss about android.
I do but it’s often frustrating to due to two notable issues with Apple’s implementation:
-
The don’t use the conventional “swipe in a loop over a letter to use two of that letter” approach. Instead they just try to figure it out if you swipe over a letter.
-
They don’t take grammar into consideration when trying to determine what word you just swiped.
Both of these lead to the feature failing A LOT to under what I’m trying to say.
Since swiftkey first appeared on android - so probably at least ten years. It makes a lot of mistakes though. The most frustrating one is that it seems to struggle with the word “and”. Apparently it believes I must mean “ABS”. I guess ABS is far more likely than “and”. /s
Yes. GBoard/SwiftKey trained me and now I mostly swipe or talk to text out longer thoughts since dictation seems to be improved
I do. It pisses me off 60% of the time
YES
I use it for one handed use. It works quite well actually. I have typed this comment with it.
Yes. Been using it since before I got an iPhone in 2016. I have always preferred swipe texting and would download apps to use it when I had Android. I don’t use it exclusively but I use it a ton. Like, just typing this, I’ve used swipe and regular.
I do when typing one handed as it seems a lot faster. Also when typing on the Apple Watch.
No
always, it’s literally the only way i type 😭
It doesn't let me say fuck still even tho it is supposed to now
Never
I’ve loved it ever since the swype beta back in the day and been using it ever since
Swiping is a little faster but I find constantly rubbing the screen starts to become uncomfortable… maybe it’s because I’m on my phone too much.
Yes, with the SwiftKey keyboard.
i use it only when one hand is avaikable cuz tap tap tap on the keyboard just sounds and feels better
