Black Friday

I know it’s tradition and all, but why exactly does the store need to “go down” at all?

Just thinking about Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc.

I can’t remember the last time these other stores had to “go down” in order to stock a new product, or even do an entire front page refresh. It just sort of… happens.

Speaking as a developer, I can think of a few reasons why it would need to go down. But these reasons are merely technical and speak to the developer capability and design of the system. Whomever runs their store is simply not doing things right.

My non dev take is it's a marketing tactic. Store goes "down" and posts like this one go up. Drives traffic and generates buzz

[–] texan01@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Exactly it’s a marketing stunt.

Even with the gift card there are better deals at retailers.

[–] gueriLLaPunK@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yup. Scored a pair of AirPod Pro 2 for $169 at Walmart

[–] CyberAsura@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The deals are actually cheaper somewhere else and have a better return policy than Apple official

[–] WorldlyDay7590@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

They just added their Black Friday "deals" (nothing is actually cheaper, but you get a gift card to the apple store)

[–] zztop610@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Super deal at Apple, MacBook Pro slashed from $1299 to $1279

[–] White_Mocha@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Oh no! Anyway.

Welcome to the tutti-fruitti, phoney-baloney, plastic banana, good time, rock-n-roll Apple PR hype. They do this every year to create astroturf excitement. It’s like they don’t believe in their own products and have to gin-up interest with these little games. Meanwhile, every other major retailer manages to update their site without taking it offline.

I get that concern trolling is fun, but do you really think that Apple actually needs to take their site offline for things like this? If you do, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Who hurt you?

[–] blumhagen@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I just used the education pricing to save the same money and not get a gift card.

[–] Thoughtful_tamale@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Hmmm 🤔 that’s what I’m thinking

[–] Filthy--Ape@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

what a joke these black friday sales are. Promo only applies if you buy an old iphone or an inferior mac. This is called a getting rid of old inventory sale.

[–] Wearesyke@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

What do you think Black Friday is for?

[–] 7-methyltheophylline@alien.top 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The store is up in India, where we have no Black Friday. So I assume it's down for a Black Friday sale update in the US.

[–] ShaidarHaran2@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Better than Black Friday in Japan 😭
