Recently came across a post saying watchtube is dead. I didn't even know it existed :/ Wondering if there are any other apps dedicated for the watch OS that you use on a daily basis?

This is gonna be super boring, but my 2FA apps. Especially Duo.

[–] StorytellingGiant@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I’m about to go through all of my accounts and make sure 2FA is on where available. Currently everything’s spread across a few different auth apps but I’d love solid Watch support that won’t be yanked later.

Is Duo a winner? Any other favorites?

These plus Carrot Weather for me.

[–] schimmlie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Carrot is hilarious. Getting insulted by my weather app 10/10 would recommend.

I used to use nano, till I discovered lolllybot on this sub. Check it out!

[–] nickites@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I thought nano was broken with the API changes?

[–] atticus_roark@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nope I think it read it doesn’t meet the traffic threshold or something like that, same as Lollybot

Convenient, but not worth it. That goes to the Watch 8 onwards. I currently have a watch 7

Gentler Streak, HeartWatch & AutoSleep, Training Today, CardioBot and Hello Weather.

[–] limeblast@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What does Training Today provide that Gentler Streak doesn’t?

A simple scale from 1-10

Here are my favorite third party apps:

WorkOutDoors - Offline maps!

Just Press Record - If you set it as a complication, as soon as you press it it starts recording and you'll be able to see the recording on all your devices and get a transcription of what you said.

Athlytic - Basically turns your Apple Watch into a Whoop strap for much cheaper.

Watch for Tesla - Control my Tesla from my Watch + turns it into the key for my Tesla

MiniCord - Discord for my Watch. I only use it for messages

Pro Compass For Watch - It's similar to the built in compass app BUT it actually shows your waypoints on an actual freaking map (it's mind blowing that the stock compass app doesn't have this)

ThermoWatch - Control Nest thermostat from Watch

uBrowser - Browser for the Watch.

Hello Weather - The new Apple weather app requires too many clicks to see what I want. Hello Weather shows me it much faster.

[–] DoneWithTheGrind@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I will give uBrowser a try.

Note the Apple Watch natively supports some web browsing if you ask Siri to “Search web for…” and click then click “open page” on the results.

Thanks for the detailed app write-ups!

[–] Open_Bug_4196@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Just adding that you don’t need to ask Siri, you simply can create shortcut and expose it to the watch, from there you can use it in many ways, including the action button

[–] Strvctvred@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Liking the look and sound of Athlytic! Good shout.

[–] kschrader@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Do you have a link to Pro Compass? Can’t find it anywhere.

[–] Dismal_Library_6436@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It’s hard to find because it’s only available on the Watch. So you have to search on the App Store directly on your Watch. I don’t think I can link to it

[–] connectingthedogs@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What do you use Just press Record for? There are probably a bunch of things but I just never think of it.

[–] techtom10@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Streamlets. Plays radio from the watch. Handy if I don't have my phone and I don't want my girlfriend to hear me pooping.

[–] FirewallFrank@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Voice in a Can. Carrot weather. The Oregon trail step tracker.

[–] cinnysuelou@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Oregon Trail Steptracker?!?! Technology is amazing.

[–] little_blu_eyez@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I remember when I had a Fitbit I heard about this app and was jealous I couldn’t get it. I am now running to the App Store

The best apps that I use daily are the Fitness and the Workout apps.

[–] JR-Fire@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Could you please share a link to the Workout app because I'd like to check it out but can't seem to find anything named simply "Workout" in the appstore

Hevy

It wasn't until getting a watch and then finding the best workout tracking app that I was able to commit to logging workouts over a long period of time. Before that, the process was always to cumbersome using my phone - and I would eventually get annoyed and stop tracking.

Sleep tracking app, I like it because it does “smart alarms” so will try and wake me up during light sleep within the half hour window that I set my alarm for.
