Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

We humans now face an era of climate that is uncharted for the size and complexity of the human community.

Our roads, rails, ports, buildings, electric grid, water systems and food systems are not designed for this new climate.

Our maladapted infrastructure problem is becoming even more obvious now as a combination of climate change and the warm phase of the periodic fluctuation of warm and cool waters in the tropical Pacific Ocean known as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation is bringing record worldwide temperatures.

Public health infrastructure and practices will also have to change as tropical diseases creep further from the equator and toward the poles.

Those who have called for a focus on adaptation to climate change-either because they don't believe climate change is human-caused or because they now see the futility of getting humans to address the causes of climate change-will have their hands full in the decades ahead. They will be working in a new environment in which the Earth breaks records not just for temperature but for other measures such as rainfall and drought in various locations depending on how climate change is affecting those locations.

For real though. With the effects and measurements of climate change constantly proving to be far worse than expected, just add infrastructure to the list of the myriad things in our world that will be catastrophically affected in so many unpredictable ways.

It's why I got into Vetiver Grass. After getting into horticulture many years ago, I realised that even native plants aren't adapting to the environment as well, particularly some riparian vegetation, so I figured why not try and help by using a safe tool to give them a leg up.

Most people don't seem to realise that there are new pressures coming in from all angles.
