Hey! I recently bought the iPhone 15pro and when I use the „focus“ in the camera App by tapping with my finger on the screen a „f“ appears in the corner. I can activate it, but I can’t find out what for. It looks like the sign for „camera aperture“ (I don’t know if this is the right word, it’s „Blende“ in German). What does it do? I didn’t find anything on the apple help pages.

Can’t believe no one said „f” around and find out.

Because that’s lame af

[–] taxis-asocial@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes that’s just what Reddit needs, more terrible dad jokes and lame puns in a thread where someone’s asking an actual question lol

You can pay respect with it

Think of it as the control of background blur (bokeh). The smaller the number, the higher the blur. Play around with it to see the effect. Personally I like higher f-stops (less blur)--it looks more natural.

F stop (It is a camera suture measuring unit )

“fake” aperture setting. it adds blur artificially after the photo has been taken to mimic the aperture thats been chosen since this has a fixed aperture

It’s the Fanta button

[–] LifeEntertainment666@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It’s camera aperture. Smaller numbers mean a larger aperture that lets in more light, bigger numbers mean the aperture is smaller and lets in less light

[–] rtyoda@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The iPhone doesn't have an adjustable aperture. There is no change to the amount of light being let in.

it means FIGHTING GOLD

[–] kimbolll@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

That’s the “I can’t take photos” button. Apple makes you admit your inadequacies by putting an F in the chat before taking over and taking the photo for you. /s

i love how most don’t realize phones have fixed apertures lol. anywho the f means it’s saving the depth info so that you can apply the portrait effect after taking the pic

do you know where this is? It looks amazing

[–] Jahrmarktsboxer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Sure. It’s in Hurghada. Egypt.

As people said.. aperture. F stop. Lower number = more blur (portrait) Higher number = less blur (landscape)

Takes photos in french

[–] jisuskraist@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

On the 15 series, you can capture photos with depth data in non-portrait mode. The icon turns yellow to indicate depth capture during regular photos when either a person, dog, or cat is detected, or when you tap to focus on a subject, prompting the camera to use portrait mode for depth.

F is for focal length. F/stop= focal length / diameter of aperture. Example f stop is 2.8 so 2.8 =50mm/ diameter. 2.8/50= .056, 2.8 at 100mm is 2.8/100 = .028

Good book called digital photography for dummies It makes it easy to understand these new technologies As well as standard photographic concepts and methods Highly recommended

The “f” in f-stop means finestra, Italian for window. The larger the f-stop opening (1.4, 2.8) the less depth of field. The higher the f-stop (16,22) the more depth of field. F8 is probably your sharpest focus
