I was gonna say something snarky about his WC win but I'm think I'm guilty of some internal revisionist history. He really didn't win anything else around then but in my head it wasn't as left field as that.

Haha, yeah I remember I started getting into pro cycling again the year he was in the rainbow jersey, and not knowing his age thinking maybe he was someone who had passed his peak since I never saw him win anything.

He won the WC before he won a stage in a WT-race, and I remember people were very dismissive of him as the world champion. But he was literally 23 years old and just starting out in leadership roles.
