It's hard to overstate how much this track captured the zeitgeist of the moment. This was two years into Thatcher first term in office, when the whole country seemed to be crumbling, and though it was written before the race riots of 1981 it was released at the perfect moment to feel like a reflection of those tensions.

Also noteworthy is that the first B side, "Why?" was written about a racist attack that left the guitarist hospitalised.
