Seems Meta is having a modicum of success with their Twitter replacement which they've called "Threads".

10,000,000 users from the first day.

Would be very odd for the main social media networks to be... Facebook, Facebook 2 (Instagram) Facebook 3 (Threads)

All social media ruled by Zuckerberg ๐Ÿค”

Not sure I like the way the Internet is heading.

Two points worth mentioning:

  • Those are mostly pre-existing Instagram users, thus a migration of this compared to the migration to Mastodon and other alternatives is to be expected.
  • Threads users must use an Instagram account rather than a separate one. It's inseparatable. I wonder how many would stick around.

Scary stuff indeed. Long live federation!
