A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Random twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Low Hanging Fruit thread.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. These include Social media screenshots with a title punchline / no punchline, recent (after the start of the Ukraine War) reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Low effort thread instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

Among the other crimes of this piece of nonsense: axes should have meanings.

You can't just put random words on a page and pretend it's a graph.

The "fuck around" axis has only one example of fucking around ("americans among hostages") the rest is just a list of US military movements.

The items on the "find out" axis don't happen in that order and they happen independent of the items on the "fuck around" axis.

[–] fluke@snake.substantialplumbing.repair 28 points 11 months ago (3 children)

What do you mean "axes should have meanings"? Bro it's just a thing for cutting wood! You ever split a log? Me neither.

[–] Hegar@kbin.social 14 points 11 months ago

You ever split a log?

Nope but a split a sin and that's how I got 2 cos

This isn't statistics class, though, this is smoking in the courtyard of the crusty old dorms, behind the math building.

"A new government has already been decided upon"

If only. The Gaza Strip is one of the handful of regions that could actually benefit from US regime change. Not because we're good at it, but because the strip is so monumentally fucked as it is.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 24 points 11 months ago (3 children)

The only way I think we could honestly do worse is if we built gas chambers or nuked them. I'm sure the US government will find a new way to fuck it up though.

[–] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 34 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I'm expecting them to support a new "legitimate" government which will turn out to be worse than ISIL and join up with aliens to commit a multidimensional extermination of humans.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The Monkey's Paw curls. First contact is with an alien race with technology beyond our wildest dreams and the ability to solve all our problems. However, it turns out they were the inspiration for Christianity and due to a very crucial passage of the Bible describing a ritual to be registered in their database of "saved souls" having been lost to time, no one is saved.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Can we speed this one up? Thanks.

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 11 points 11 months ago

If the US can become the common enemy that finally unites all the various factions then that seems like a real improvement for the region. Maybe not for the US, though.

[–] just_change_it@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I don't think there is any entity alive big or small that could find a way to bring peace to the middle east.

Living anywhere near holy land is such a curse.

[–] FederatedSaint@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

"Holy" land.

Man, religion is a cancer on this planet.

What's with the sudden influx of 'Planefucker community CRINGE gottem' posts? Did we hit the front page with this one or something?

[–] nuke@yah.lol 20 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

What a person and their plane do in hangar should be their own business as long as it's consensual!

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 22 points 11 months ago (7 children)

I have just one word

Vietnam

[–] just_change_it@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Don't forget Afganistan and Korea! We do so well when we go to places we are not welcome and do not have significant shared cultural ancestry from and try to get someone who likes us in there to run things.

I mean yeah but Vietnam didn't go great for the Vietnamese either. "The US is getting involved in your war" is bad even if you win because "dropped more bombs on your tiny Asian country than were dropped in all of WW2 and then gave up and withdrew" is a pretty goddamned Pyrrhic victory.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 4 points 11 months ago

Agreed ... but if your options are death, destruction and subjugation ... or fight endlessly until you get anything out of it ... it's a sight to behold how the Vietnamese even still exist today.

A single lifetime might seem insignificant ... but in the long run ... even empires do fall.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Was limited by politicians. We were trying to turn our military into police and that just doesn't work.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago

That age-old canard.

Send the OP to Washington. Biden needs to speak with this genius.

[–] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I suspect Nuke's already in a moldy basement cubicle there, trying to stay awake between presentations to the Joint Chiefs.

[–] nuke@yah.lol 9 points 11 months ago

I've seen 4 PowerPoints already today. If I see a 5th I may just end it all right here. You'll know if you get the Presidential Warning text.

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Carl, is that a necklace of hands? Carrllll...

[–] Dr_Fetus_Jackson@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Carrrrl, that kills people!

[–] FilthyHookerSpit@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

My stomach has the rumblies that only hands can satisfy.

[–] seSvxR3ull7LHaEZFIjM@feddit.de 15 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Regime change, a tactic proven to work.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Works 100% of the time 20% of the time.

[–] 100_percent_a_bot@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

60% of the time it works every time.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago

It'll work till the next election, which is the only requirement.

[–] TheBlue22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Most dumbass shit I've seen. Stupid even by noncredibledefense standards.

[–] riodoro1@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago (2 children)

All those tax dollars could’ve given you a better healhcare and more of a functional society. And the middle east might have been better off without funding israel.

[–] Vent@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

America doesn't need those tax dollars to fund better healthcare. Medicare for all would cost less than the current system does.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Well, we gotta grease the politicians' palms somehow to get them to pass it.

[–] nuke@yah.lol 14 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Shit take. American healthcare does NOT suffer from a lack of funding. The amount of money isn't the problem. In fact, we pay more than what free healthcare for all would cost.

[–] Car@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 11 months ago

They’re going to need a new catchy name. OIF is out.

Maybe Operation Gaza Rescue Expedition. We can get some OGRE coins and hats made up right now

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 11 months ago

I can't believe this is cringe to you all. I'm cringe and this meme is epic! x3
