What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Lol, saying yes to the death penalty in socialist countries because their justice system is just. These people live in a bubble.

I swear most of these people are bad Chinese state actors

The police abolition is an interesting one. Do they think there would be zero crime in this fantasy land of theirs?

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Possibility 1: They're idiots who think that ALL crime comes from capitalist material conditions

Possibility 2: They want to return to the pre-police system where military forces simply shoot people who are being unruly and influential locals decide who is or is not investigated for crimes

Possibility 3: They want to return to the pre-state system where the tribe communally gets together and beats anyone to death who blasphemes against the Holy Scriptures (in this case, of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao)

"abolish the police" always has been such a dumb and empty slogan.

Yes, yes, police in the us needs an enormous overhaul that will likely take decade, if (and whenever) implemented.

But just dumping, abolishing it? How stupid are you?

also replacing schools with... schools?

unless education is privatised in the us?

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

There are private schools. They range from religious to for-profit operations. There is a public school system that exists, though very... unevenly administrated.

To steelman the position somewhat, they did say "Schools as we know them". Modern schooling does leave a lot to be desired, and if you listen to any passionate professional in the educational field talk about how they'd change and improve schools, it would fundamentally change things.

Some on the right are trying to make it that way, but no. The vast majority are in public schools
