Possibly. It's a storyline trope from lots of things; the 1960's-70's seedy mobster Vegas era. The place was legend.

Before that bank usually request a monthly or yearly feed to open an account, so is even more irrealistic have 14$.

Interesting, I've never paid anything at any of the 4 banks I've used. There's fees for overdrafts and such, but not to open or maintain an account.
