General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

We could actually process asylum seekers instead of keeping them in limbo, they probably have needed skills for the economy

I mean, if "take back control" means treat people with dignity and respect. Offering them safe routes and a welcoming speedy asylum process then, great.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that's what they mean by "take back control" and that just makes me wonder who on Earth is going to offer me an actual progressive alternative to vote for at the next election.

Can we form a Lemmy Party or something?

Yes, you can.

No one is. You cannot vote for a progressive future. The changes that we need to make to our society have to happen outside of the polling booth.

There's a 3 to 5 year waiting list for dental appointments where I live, and I bet there's at least a few dentists stuck in limbo there.

The “labour” party campaigning on a conservative policy. This is great stuff. Can’t wait for the headfirst rush towards far-right ideology that will happen when people realise that voting labour didn’t make things better. \s

Thing is, he cannot be seen to be doing nothing. Treating the traffickers like this is a good move. It shifts the focus away from the people who are suffering.

Now he needs to do the same with drug dealers.
