Twitter’s CEO just violated their own TOS because he’s a butt hurt little baby about people finding out he only tells lies.

There is nothing in China that will ever harm you as much as the American Government does. Ever.

But keep giving your info to the NSA, I’m sure they’re good people with good intentions. Surely.

It's possible for platforms under the influence of the Chinese government and right wing American billionaires to both have harmful censorship.

But... But... the Tankies told me I had to choose!

What do you mean right wing America bad and China also bad?! But which team are you on then?! Someone tell me which crimes to excuse and which to condemn! /s

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 83 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That was the point of the reply wasn't it? Maybe I assume too much of them.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Nah, the point of the reply was supposed to be "America bad", despite most of us clearly recognizing "Elon bad".

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago

I interpreted it as:

haha Chinese censorship

Right here too

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 2 days ago

more like "America isn't much better"

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The reply just pointed out the hypocrisy of the original poster.

(As in "here you are a willing participant in a forum were censorship is just as bad complaining about how there is this other forum were censorship is bad")

It's hard to take any apologists for the CCP seriously even if they make a good point.

That user is being hypocritical by using Twitter while bashing censorship, but it would be the cultural equivalent to praising Biden or Trump for never drinking and somebody comes along and praises Hitler for also not drinking. You should not praise Hitler even if it is true.

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are they CCP apologists? I have no idea who any of these people are.

Without any context, I read it as:

Haha Chinese censorship

You're on a censored platform too.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In this precise example they are apologists because they're deflecting criticism and bringing up other wrongdoings done by other people in a different part of the world under different means and for different goals.

OK, I dont read it that way so much as "Yeah all these platforms suck", but they are still using them so sure.

I am sure cisgender (ι‘Ίζ€§εˆ«) and other genders are at least shadow-banned on red note. Honestly, I have not heard this word for my entire Chinese-speaking life, until one of my LGBT friend mentioned it.

Everyone knows China is a progressive communist/socialist country that recognizes genders :)

[–] vritrahan@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've come across plenty of LGBT content on REDnote in my short time so far

[–] coherent_domain@infosec.pub 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That is interesting. I am genuinely curious, are these by Chinese people in Mandarin/Cantonese, or your fellow "refugee"?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (3 children)

are these by Chinese people

It could put them in danger if they posted it, we shouldn’t encourage that

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Is the situation that dire that a comment like that would put their safety in jeopardy? Genuinely curious

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

https://www.thepinknews.com/2021/09/03/china-masculinity-sissy-men-tv/

Talks about more than just the tv ban

Not the worst place, you can apply for someone to be your legal guardian as a way to get around same sex marriage

But there are also no protections

How? They already posted it to a site that is almost definitely monitored by the CCP.

[–] coherent_domain@infosec.pub 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yes, you are right, sorry for not considerring that.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de -3 points 2 days ago

You should really use /s, almost missed it.

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's what the whattaboutism implies.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Person talking about how the neighbour's yard is such a mess and then somebody else pointing out that their own yard is just as much as a mess is pointing out the hypocrisy of that person, rather than whataboutism.

Whataboutism is the reverse - it's when somebody points out your yard is a mess and you point out that the neighbour's yard is also a mess.

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 day ago

yeah exactly

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 1 day ago

they only showed that American social media isn't any better

[–] A7thStone@lemmy.world 77 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, their censorship is cruel and tragic.

But our censorship is cheeky and fun.

/s because unfortunately it's necessary

[–] M1nds3nd@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

Chinese shenanigans

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 45 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yeah, but Rednote censorship is bad because ~communism~ whilst Twitter's censorship is fine because it's the 100% Capitalist Free Market situation of a billionaire buying (using, amongst others, money from a Petro State) a privatelly owned forum for exchange of ideas and then shutting down any ideas he doesn't like.

/s
