Oh fuck, the Krassensteins are going to have a second wind as premier ”Orange Man Drumpf your fired” guys.

Krassensteiner's counter attack will save the Democrats

Fuck Biden. Obviously. I have a maybe weird take on this:

Israel is smartly suing for peace because they don't know what the fuck Trump will get up to. No one does. Best not to need many billions of dollars from a guy who is somewhat known to demand stuff for money, unlike many politicians. Especially hard to get that to happen if you are one of the uncharismatic ghouls in charge of Israel.

Not that any of this is meant to maker Trump sound good of course, he's simply the weirdest guy and no one knows what will set him off. Just, again, these Zionists aren't used to having to suck up to anyone and would not do a good job at it.

these Zionists aren't used to having to suck up to anyone and would not do a good job at it.

This is true. They are wildly entitled and they act accordingly. That sort of attitude carried over to how they reacted to even the mildest criticism of their attack on Gaza. Even if it was couched in pro-israel rhetoric.

In a symbolic playing out of the real power relations between Israel and the United States, Steve Witkoff [Trump's "Middle East Envoy"] informed the office of Benjamin Netanyahu last Friday that he’d be arriving in Israel the next day and wanted to meet him.

Netanyahu’s aides “politely explained that was in the middle of the Sabbath but that the prime minister would gladly meet him Saturday night,” according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

“Witkoff’s blunt reaction took them by surprise,” Haaretz added. “He explained to them in salty English that Shabbat was of no interest to him. His message was loud and clear.”

Netanyahu obeyed orders from Trump’s envoy and showed up at his office as commanded “for an official meeting with Witkoff, who then returned to Qatar to seal the deal.”

Trump's guy probably literally said something like "fuck you we're discussing this right now" to Netanyahu. Not long after, the deal was in place.

But yeah, it was definitely Biden's doing.

If Biden wanted credit, he should have done this before the election

[–] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 43 points 19 hours ago

If Biden wanted credit he should have done it at all

[–] edge@hexbear.net 29 points 20 hours ago

He didn't want to do it. He was very clear that he wasn't going to put any restrictions on Israel, which is exactly why they ignored his attempts at a peace deal. Harris was also clear about that.

Like, I don’t think “embarrassing Biden” was at the top of the reasons Trump did all this (I still think he may have a side deal with Netanyahu, though that could be as benign as “I will take care of you over the next 4 years” or as evil as allowing the annexation of the West Bank), but jfc this really has made Biden look terrible, even to libs I know IRL it’s clear now Biden could have done something at any point in the last 15 months and didn’t, while Trump clearly was decisive in making a ceasefire happen because literally every party involved other than the Biden admin themselves is saying this is due to Trump.

Edit: don’t get me wrong, I think Trump knew this would make Biden look bad to some extent but this is an absolute blowout; well beyond what I think Trump could have imagined.

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 43 points 20 hours ago

Wow it's also epic how he didn't answer the question and also sent a fuck ton of weapons to Israel

[–] on8wingedangel@hexbear.net 33 points 20 hours ago

Couldn't agree more. Is that a joke? Trump will get the credit, of course.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 36 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

It's weird to me that they didn't stage it for Trump to come in and 'broker the peace' once he's in office. The last day of Biden in office is just weird, what kind of message are they trying to send?

[–] edge@hexbear.net 44 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Trump actually asked for that specifically. He wanted the hostages returned before he entered office. I don't know why when it would look way better for him if the deal happened while he's president.

But this deal was ultimately about Trump twisting Netanyahu's arm. Biden has been peddling this deal for like 8 months and Israel kept refusing, because they knew Biden would just keep sending them weapons and not punish them in any way. Trump must have said something different for what his term will be like. Biden taking credit is so disingenuous, but so is most of the Democratic party.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 18 points 20 hours ago

Maybe he's just lazy? 🤷‍♀️

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 21 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It allows for a constant shifting of rhetorical focus so that Trump can take credit when it suits him and blame Biden when it suits him.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Where would any blame be coming from?

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 20 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Zionist didn't want to end the genocide, they wanted to complete it. Trump wants to be able to deflect them onto Biden.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 13 points 19 hours ago

Sounds like he made a pretty wise political play
