Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

I'm wondering what advantage, if any, does AI really give for a nation? All I've really seen is that it can make people in beauracratic jobs be a touch more productive, but these jobs are already bullshit to begin with and are not producing real value. All this is doing is reducing some of the costs so that companies can report a bit more profit for the quarter.

Then there's all the slop AI can produce which doesn't really mean anything for competitive advantage. And there's also "AI integration" in products that don't really need it. So yea unless some compelling use case for AI is discovered, I feel like it's another crypto.

US Capital doesn't want other world powers to perfect the ai-powered human face targeting auto-turrets before they do imo

JFC, it's not even Lucy and Charlie Brown anymore. It's only Charlie Brown trying to punt the ball and he still just pulls it away from himself for catastrophic failure

Bidens fat poops are for imperial citizens ONLY. Sorry China you gotta find the right gut microbiome and manufacture it yourself if you want in on the secret sauce.

military ai is literally training on image recognition, you can do it on 4 gb card, if you have the time.

Uh, I think you're leaving out all the human trafficking, drug trafficking, and SA. Not gonna be able replicate that so easily.

Yeah, so your ai can generate shitty images of anime waifus with fucked up hands, but can it ship hundreds of tons of opium out of SE Asia???

I can only imagine SMIC is going to become extremely competitive in the next several years.

Biden handing the future of global development and alignment to China

To me, based entirely on vibes and anecdotal evidence, seems to be the move of big capital. I've seen videos of rich kids learning mandarin years ago, Elong Ma desperately wants to keep the Tesla China market, stuff like that leads me to believe that that is the current plan and not a goof.

Lol, AI is shit to begin with. China will probably abandon it and produce some new incredible advancement while the west continues to dump everything into the AI pit and produce no returns. All while our entire economy is just scams from top to bottom.

LLMs are trash (for scientific purposes) but AI in general (which is a very very broad category and contains many useful types of software) has great potential for many technological advancements.

ai is quite good at identifying people to bomb i mean objects in camera in lower stakes environments like not driving afaik

produce no returns

Hey that isn’t true! Many of the most evil people imaginable are making billions by using spurious “””AI””” claims to pump up the valuations of worthless companies and products!

Machine learning that's put into use other than creating fugly drawings no one fucking asks for about is actually incredibly useful. But it's all very boring from a consumer viewpoint that boils down to "streamlining industrial processes." It's well within reach to have an algorithm designed to manage how much paper printers within a building use up and when to add more paper so there's as little downtime as possible, but most people don't have to worry about managing 100+ printers. I saw a short clip of some Chinese port using ML to streamline port operations. The algorithms are set to recognize what a shipping container is and where to load and unload the container. Since the containers are standardized, it's not hard to train the algorithms with past data.
