A UK-centric Electric Vehicles community, where discussion/news of the wider European continent is welcome.

All discussion of EVs (and hybrids for the moment), charging networks, etc, welcome!

No USA/Americas news unless it is relevant to the UK/Europe - most of the existing EV communities on Lemmy are awash with US discussion, please use one of those. US news and discussion will be removed.

The main "global" EV community is !electricvehicles@slrpnk.net

I really do not understand this. Charging points are not much more than an electric cable. Surely it would be more appropriate to demand car park install them first? We would not need a petrol station if they were installed in parking areas.

Not to mention that for most electric cars, it still takes hours to charge them. This idea is stupid. Mandate they install them in parking lots, not at gas stations.

Are the drivers going to sit there for 5 hours while their car charges?

On a 150kW charger? How big is your battery?

It depends on the car. Some of them only have regular charger ports. When I had a Volt I could never use the fast chargers at parking lots because it didn't have the right port for them.

All full EVs currently in production have rapid charging. If yours doesn't, find somewhere to charge where you can leave it for hours - which won't be a rapid at a petrol station.
