We used to have Great British sitcoms coming out of our ears. Now, the only hope of a laugh round here is via a nostalgia-mining reunion

New fiction is risky to make. A lot of money down the pan if nobody likes it. Panel shows though? You can film 3 or more episodes in a day.

The last decent British sitcom was "Ghosts", but IMHO they properly arsed it up with that Christmas special/series finale.

Writing good comedy is hard, so when we do get one then we'll keep dragging it out for Christmas. The creators have to be made of strong stuff to resist the cash being thrown at it but good writers will know if they've got a solid story to tell. Gavin and Stacy didn't embarrass itself and, before that the Royle Family always delivered.

I can’t think of a single living British sitcom deserving of a modern day Christmas special.

I think an Everyone Else Burns Christmas special has great potential.
