If he had stuck to what he had been talking about before his first term of being a single term president, maybe threw some shade about getting some young blood in there, and had a actual primary, whoever won that would have beaten Trump. As always though, old assholes hubris fucks us all.

Yeah absolutely right. Biden will now just be remembered as the guy who was president in the gap during the Trump story.

Also it is not just old man hubris, it's also a classic example of people at the top of the party acting in their own interests rather than the party's. Bidens appointees and staff had a vested interest in him staying on as a new leader would pick other people. And then they had a vested interest in appointing Harris and running her campaign as a continuation of his, trying to keep themselves in power.

The whole thing was a shit show at the top of the democratic party. The irony is them saying trump is a threat to democracy when they did everything possible to prevent a democratic process in their own party.

I have a very hard time believing he would have won.

Uh, most Democrats or at least Democrat-leaning voters who stayed home did so because of the America's involvement in genocide, and the fact that living conditions for the average joe haven't really changed in the last 4 years. Wall Street isn't the barometer for success of the economy, Main Street is.

Oh living conditions have changed, they just have gotten much worse or at best stagnated.

I stayed home because neither candidate represented the interests of the working class.

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah but that just means you can be safely ignored.

The Democrats don't bother to win voters that don't show up. 40% didn't vote. They aren't going to read your lack of vote as "I ain't voting because I hate y'all". ALL statistics are based around voters. Who showed up are more likely to show up again.

I'm not saying you should've voted Kamala because she was the lesser of two evils, far from it. I'm just saying that if you want the message to be received, you need to be petty. Use the write in space and write "fuck you Kamala" If you lack a write in space, just don't fill out the presidency. It's recorded.

If they receive 6% less voters, it's ignored. You can only estimate that. if 6% of ballots just... ignored the presidency. That's an eye popping statistic.

Ignoring us is what results in Trump presidencies.

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean... yes? But also if you had showed up and flipped the finger, then all the ground you stand on would be rock solid. "You ignored me and this vote I am slipping into the ballot box could've been yours, but nope, now it goes to Micky mouse. Too bad, so sad."

You are now automatically grouped with cheeto finger guys sitting in their underwear playing league to reach iron 2 because they just don't care. What data can I wave to say you aren't in that category?

Literally all of our bureaucracy is built on data. You've provided no proof that you are disenfranchised. A protest vote of none takes less time than a protest, and leaves more data.

[–] john89@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Not really. You're just in the camp of "get out and vote no matter what."

[–] AnotherDirtyAnglo@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's totally going to turn out to be just great for you and everyone you know.

One of the two options could be petitioned and protested against to effect change. The other tear-gassed peaceful protesters (and clergy) in front of a church that he'd never set foot in, for a photo op where he held the bible backwards and upside down.

Good fucking luck, because you're going to need it.

[–] john89@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

If you're really upset, direct that ire to the people who keep nominating candidates that don't represent the interests of the working class.

[–] topherclay@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If they "stayed home" then they shouldn't be called "voters."

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

Agreed. Staying at home is always read as "I don't care" It's the #1 excuse of "we need to win over right wing voters because they vote" argument.

If you're truly that disenfranchised, then show up and write none. If you can't write in, then write NONE across the ballot and turn it in. it's a defaced ballot and it's recorded. Make it clear, show up and provide the middle finger so there's no room for doubt. This is exactly the moment you would've voted for your candidate if you had one.

I don't think the Dems' chances would have been better if Biden had stayed in the race. I think Biden won in 2020 because of COVID and BLM - and enough people didn't want Donvict leading the country through those issues that there was a surge of Dem votes. Come 2024 there wasn't that same anti-Donvict motivation required to beat him in the absence of a Democratic candidate who works for the people rather than the Democratic establishment. Also, the corporate media started kissing the ring and basically declared Donvict the winner after the first debate

Biden pardoning the judge that ran the cash for kids program has completely tarnished his legacy. Thst man should never have ever been free after all the thousands of lives he ruined.

He can fuck right off.

Former Pennsylvania Judge Michael Conahan was convicted in 2011 in what was infamously called the “kids-for-cash” scandal, where he took kickbacks from for-profit detention centers in exchange for wrongly sending juveniles to their facilities. The case was widely considered to be one of the worst judicial scandals in Pennsylvania history.
