Well it's a good thing they have all that priceless art they can sell...

[–] Strocker89@beehaw.org 1 points 3 minutes ago

Are you sure it's not because you've had to pay billions of dollars in settlements for priests raping children?

Are you sure that's not why?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago

Of course people are blaming him being too accepting of trans people, his view of "let them survive but they're sinners unwelcome to the eucharist" is unfortunately far too progressive for some.

Fortunately the church of Jesus of Nazareth will prioritize profit over peace and love

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago

Maybe donating and praying to your favorite imaginary sky buddy doesn't actually solve anything.

[–] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 4 points 58 minutes ago

Sell some of that gold they've bought and or stolen in the last millenia or two.

[–] recreationalcatheter@lemm.ee 8 points 2 hours ago

Have they tried institutionally raping children and covering it up for decades if not centuries?

Oh, they have... Darn.

[–] eletes@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 hours ago

Even if this is true, 2025 is a jubilee year. There will be so many pilgrims to the Vatican and donations would skyrocket

[–] Hiro8811@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Could this really be? After nearly two thousands years of Catholic Church they are finally brought to their knees.

[–] Texas_Hangover@sh.itjust.works 3 points 46 minutes ago

Like so many altar boys.

[–] PhAzE@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It's like watching the country collapse, i guess.

[–] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 1 points 57 minutes ago

Yes actually.

[–] PanArab@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago

Is the Vatican for sale?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 32 points 8 hours ago

Probably the best news I've read so far today.

[–] jollyroberts@jolly-piefed.jomandoa.net 76 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Bullshit. They own more land than damn near any other entity on the planet. The whole celibacy thing was so the priest could not take the church owning and give them to non-church kids.

Hurting for money? Sell some land. Then pay for the abuse lawsuits some more.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

Exactly plus the millions in treasure they have under the Vatican.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 46 points 11 hours ago
[–] Marthirial@lemmy.world 38 points 12 hours ago

Are these bastards really thinking we are going to believe their mafia like enterprise is supported by charitable donations?

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 55 points 13 hours ago
[–] UpperBroccoli@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 9 hours ago

Thoughts and prayers.

Wait, nope, fresh out.

[–] TingoTenga@lemmy.world 108 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

Good for them, I guess?

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 1 hour ago

"Another coin in the coffer rings, another soul into heaven springs."

[–] Devorlon@lemmy.zip 21 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

But, but The eye of a needle was a market with a small gate and if you only had a reasonable load on your camels then they could pass through so it's actually ok for rich people to exist /s

[–] Blu@sopuli.xyz 17 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (2 children)

That cope from Conservative Christians™️ is always funny. Similar statements show up in the Talmud. A large animal passing through the eye of a needle was a common idiom in Jewish culture at the time to demonstrate impossibility.

[–] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

It's a mistranslation of "sturdy rope", which indeed would not pass through the eye of a needle.

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 10 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I wish they had just said, “look bro, I don’t even need an idiom. I’m just going to tell you. If you’re rich, you’re going to Hell. You can’t exploit people and hoard resources and be in God’s good graces at the same time. Just being rich means that you’re ok walking by misery and not helping. Bro, you can’t have it like that.”

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 9 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You'd still have wealthy Christians being like "okay, but what did Jesus mean by this?"

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

You’re absolutely right haha.

“I flicked a nickel to a hobo today. Streets uh’ gode!”

Those grifters have had a good run for two millenia. As scams go, I'd say it was pretty successful - and still is, sadly.

Just ask god for money? I mean, isn't it omnisicent and omnipotent?

[–] Iapar@feddit.org 219 points 20 hours ago

Thoughts and prayers.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 61 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Don't just leave those laying around, something will fi-- aww damnit, too late...

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 10 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It’s cool, he ain’t playing it right anyway. He won’t get famous and change the world the way he’s doing it.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

C'mon, he's doing his best.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 2 points 1 hour ago

It's really hard to do without opposable thumbs!

Oh, no. Guess they'll have to sell some of those golden trinkets they have

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago

They might need to auction off one of those reptilian skeletons they have in the secret basement.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 6 points 11 hours ago
[–] workerONE@lemmy.world 38 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I'm sure if they switched from molesting kids they could make some money jerking off grown men

[–] HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today 2 points 6 hours ago

And those soft ass priest hands must feel amazing. I’ll line up for one of the Father Jackoffski specials right away.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 92 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (6 children)

Perhaps they should sell off some of the tons and tons of gold stuff they have.

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago

Or their huge amounts of foreign land

Maybe they can set up a loops server and just do remote mass shorts? They'll have to jump for jebus with different dresses.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 9 points 13 hours ago

Bootstraps bitches. Pull em up!
