General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

a day without transphobia from the guardian sounds great

Sorry, what does this mean?

Don't link to Observer or Guardian articles, only link to archive copies, or dont click on any Observer/Guardian links?

I'm assuming all of the above.

A digital picket line would apply to journalists working from home, not consumers. During the Miner's Strike, I don't remember anyone stopped using coal in solidarity.

That said, I have no objections to a boycott.

I think the main difference between miners strikes and this is that if you used coal for heating/cooking you didn't have a lot of alternative options other than just not heating your home.

Not really a viable option.

Still, I was just more curious whether this was a posting for awareness that it was happening or if "don't cross the picket line" was shared for solidarity.

Bit of both, really! I feel like using a business (in this case, clicking links) counts as crossing the picket, whether you (physically) work there or not.

If other mods agree, then I think yes.

I concur, that's all three of us (don't worry about tom, they're inactive).

Weird, it didn't federate.

Classic Fediverse! Do we need to pin it separately on every instance?

[–] flamingos 1 points 1 hour ago

Nah, I did it and that seems to have sent it through to everyone else. Just weird as I checked the logs and slrpnk seems to have not sent the pin activity to feddit.uk.

Your assumption is correct!
