I assume this is a big area for training horses? There are more ovals to the northeast, not far out of this image.

Yes, if you have horses you need to exercise them.

Not uncommon sights.

I was surprised by how many there are, relatively close together. I've lived in areas where people keep horses but I'm not accustomed to so many people having private tracks.

Yeah Woodbine and Woodbine Mohawk are big racing venues in the North American Horse Racing industry. So there are some farms trying to raise racehorses to hopefully make it big.

That explains it. I scrolled over to Woodbine Mohawk and immediately saw another half-dozen tracks near there.
