General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Turnout at the 2024 general election was just 60% – one of the lowest in modern history. This is not an isolated phenomenon: there was a decline in turnout for the 2024 local elections, and the byelections held during the 2019-2024 parliament had the lowest recorded average turnout since 1945.

Or maybe: all of the parties are crap. Sounds more plausible than "all of us are stupid".

I was only just old enough but this decade feels just like the 1970s. Nothing works, local monopolies taking the piss, strikes, and useless leaders and parties. The phrase "managed decline" was coined to describe failing public services. It gave rise to the punk anarchist in the last couple of years of the 1970s. Anarchy is the way forward for me.

Had anyone useful listened to one punk icon, Jimmy Savile would have been properly exposed. Instead they banned Johnny Rotten. It was indicative of the time.

Propose parliamentary candidates worthy of our votes (not just preprogrammed to line their own pockets) and we'll vote.

Get this pro FPTP propaganda out of here. It's very clear from the numbers that it was Tory voters who didn't turn up and that makes me worried that this is a flash in the pan for labour.

Wow, spoilt for choice.
