Obviously. Trump wants a yes-man north of the border.

[–] Rakenclaw@fedia.io 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm voting NDP, fuck Trump and Poilievre.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm voting ABC.

Whichever local candidate has the best chances of defeating the conservative candidate gets my support.

Polly Putinfever, the guy who refuses a background check /security clearance, the guy with the Venezuelan wife of mysterious origin, the guy who supported overthrowing the government, the guy with ties to white nationalist extremists, and the richest person in Parliament without ever having a job outside of government: yeah I definitely have full trust in him.

the richest person in Parliament without ever having a job outside of government

but i keeping being told by youtube ads that Jagmeet Singh is snooty leech who likes fancy watches and getting paid? /s

As an American import to Canada I have seen first hand the destruction that conservatism celebrates as progress. Hopefully the utter gong show that is taking place to the south will open some eyes, but after the US election I have a hard time remaining positive. Most people want easy answers to complex problems. If those existed they would have already been implemented.

The guy who claims to care about the housing crisis while being a landlord...

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The guy who became a multi-millionaire from taxpayer dollars.

The guy who's last name translates to "hare hair"

[–] k_rol@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Lol French is my first language and never made that link. Now I feel dumb but am laughing at this translation anyway.

[–] i_love_FFT@jlai.lu 2 points 6 days ago

On pourrait aussi l'appeler "poil aux lèvres"...

C'est au même niveau que les blagues de "trou d'eau"!

I know it's a lot to ask of our media overlords PostMedia, TorStar, Rogers and Bell, but if you want to be protected from persecution from America, you'd better be sounding the alarm bells now.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

PostMedia is owned by Americans.

[–] BuoyantCitrus@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago

And not just any Americans. They're owned by Chatham Asset Management, a hedge fund associated with the Republican party that also owns a notably Postmedia-like publication: The National Enquirer (via a360) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatham_Asset_Management

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Good news is: CBC is planning to focus more on local news, finally giving PostMedia some competition.

If you know nothing else about PP, this right here tells you everything you would ever need to know.

[–] IronKrill@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago

We should keep the "Opinion:" prefix on titles. Without it, these statements sound like evidence-based fact.

[–] droopy4096@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago

they can have PP we can even gift-wrap him and send as a Xmass gift, just please no returns.

[–] Ulrich_the_Old@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I will be voting for the candidate most likely to beat the conservative in my riding as I always do.. Conservatism is a cancer.

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago
[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca -4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thus rendering the entire democratic process invalid! Our only options are "The Assholes" or "whoever is not The Assholes."

[–] Ulrich_the_Old@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

In a two party system you would be correct... However Canada is not a country with a two party system.. You have choices here if you choose.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 0 points 5 days ago

Canada is two parties working for 3 monopolies. I can choose any party I wan't but if it's not liberal or conservative it's essentially a spoiled ballet.

Looks like Canada is doing the lesser of two evil play...

Ain't it grand how owner class is able to execute this play book everywhere lol

Fuck you peasants! Canada housing will get resolved no doubt

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There’s always the option to vote NDP.

[–] CanadianCarl@sh.itjust.works -1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I never no who to vote, cause I don't follow our country's politics, and don't know when to vote and when register.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

Register to get on the voting list whenever you want; once you’re registered, you’ll be notified of any municipal, provincial or federal elections via a card in the mail.

Options will differ depending on your riding, as we vote for our representative, not the PM/Premier etc.

Check online to see what your riding is for provincial/federal elections, and who won last time. Decide if you agree with their platform, and if you don’t, look at what the other representatives in your riding had as a platform (their websites should all still be up). Check Wikipedia to learn more about the people.

All that should take about 20-30 minutes, after which you’ll be decently informed before the next election comes around.

Minority government is the best we can hope for
