Can you click the scroll wheel to open in new tab?

I don't want it to open in a new tab it appears to not be preventable

Well, technically ... the home(aka. about:newtab) page is the active tab or do you mean the tab that was active before that? - If so ... wouldn't that potentially cause a loose of tabs, if you by accident activated/reuse/overwrite them this way? Doenst seem like a very good idea, but maybe i am just not seeing your usecase and you can explain yourself a bit more.
