Japan's ruling parliamentary coalition, consisting of the LDP (purple) and it's junior coalition partner Komeito (in light pink) have lost their ruling majority. They have ruled post-war Japan for almost its entire history. The LDP is currently led by Shigeru Ishiba after Kishida stood down due to a corruption scandal, and ties to the Unification Church.

While geopolitical factors (over the cold war between the US and China, etc) may have played a role, by far the biggest reason for this result in the poor economic conditions over the past few years. Inflation has risen and real wages have fallen, with little relief for the working class via things like tax reductions. While inequality in Japan is not as extreme as in America, it is still profound, with the top 10% possessing 60% of the wealth, while the bottom 50% possess just 5%.

Shinzo Abe previously tried to boost economic performance through monetary easing and fiscal deficits, while Kishida ran on a "new capitalism" which rejected Abe's neoliberalism and promised to reduce inequality. Nothing substantial has resulted from all this, however, other than increasing corporate wealth. Innovation continues to fall, and domestic profitability is low, resulting in decreasing investment at home by Japanese corporations. Labour productivity growth has only slightly picked up since the mid-2000s and is falling again. The rate of profit has fallen by half since the 1960s, and Japan has been in a manufacturing recession - or very close to it - since late 2022. In essence: there is no choice but between stagnation or decline.

Activists sentenced for Palestinian banner drop

Yesterday a Copenhagen court convicted five activists for having dropped a Palestinian flag in the Danish parliament on November 3rd last year. The flag had the text "your silence kills" on it and was a reaction to the Danish regime's cowardly decision to abstain from a UN vote demanding an immediate ceasefire.

The trial was short and undramatic with the most emotional outburst being the prosecutor weaving about how "parliament is the beating heart of the state" and how it was a "very rude alternative that they make, that the politicians should be responsible for the killings of civilians".

Each activist was sentenced to fines in the USD 200-300 range in accordance with the prosecutor's demands.

  • On 25 October, the Al-Quds Foundation in was live on Salaamedia, issuing an "emergency appeal", which included both praise and criticism of South Africa's response to the geenocide by "israel", as well as harsh condemnation of Middle Eastern nations, especially Egypt. It was also heavily advised to put more pressure on the South African government to begin taking more meaningful action against Isnotreal, such as a total ban on trade with the Apartheid state. The programme also urged much more direct action including storming "israeli" embassies/consulates and complicit arms industries (much like Palestine Action) in not only South Africa, but all over the world. Even martyrdom was suggested onboard flotillas delivering food and medical aid, in an attempt to tell the ISISraeli blockade to eat shit and push forward anyway. That's really about as radical as they probably could take it without consequence, even on South African airwaves. Still, waow-based

  • Several more universities in South Africa have severed ties with their Pissraeli counterparts - University of Cape Town and University of the Western Cape, Nelson Mandela University, University of South Africa, University of Fort Hare and University of Venda. AFAIK, all 4 campuses of University of Johannesburg have maintained their boycott since 2011.

  • Wits University had rejected demands for boycott. PIGPOOPBALLS

  • Several media outlets have named and identified a South African named Aaron Bayhack who joined the IDF's elite sniper team in Gaza. One more who is due to be sent to the barbara-pit if he ever steps foot back into South Africa. Of course, there's also outrage of the pro-Apartheid "community" of a "brave, patriotic, innocent young boy" being doxxed by major outlets such as IOL and News24. Let alone the fact that a South African IDF serviceman stepping foot back into a country hostile to "israel" presents a very immediate threat to public safety.

  • South Africa also submitted it's memorial to the ICJ on the morning of 28 October. "israel" was given 9 months (until the 28th of July) to submit a "counter-argument". It's not a mystery as to what this so-called counter-argument contains.

  • The move to change Sandton Drive to Leila Khaled Drive is again delayed. So much for the socialist fraternal kiss under the Leila Khaled street sign with the US Consulate getting Falastin-2'd in the background 2 weeks ago. meow-tableflip

  • SAJFP also picked apart that one Haaretz article "Scary Time To Be a Zionist" and called out many a salty settler.

  • A journalist by the name of Hamza Chalan has escaped Jabalia and fled to South Africa with his footage also 2 weeks ago.

  • Google Earth still shows Mariupol in ruins and the international-community-1international-community-2 still claims the city is a bombed-out ghost town, even as the population is back to over 400,000 and most services and infrastructure has been restored.

Death to AmeriKKKa; Death to "israel"

Dozens of civilians have been killed and thousands displaced in Sudan’s Gezira state, aid groups said, after several days of attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been battling the army for more than a year. In an interview with The AP on Friday, Chaiban said the war has created “one of the most acute crises in living memory” with more than 14 million people forced to flee their homes, plunging Sudan into the world’s largest displacement crisis.“ We’ve never in a generation seen these types of numbers,” he said. About 25.6 million people – more than half of Sudan’s population – are expected to face acute hunger this year due to the conflict.

In good news for Cuba, both Claudia Sheinbaum (Mexico) and Lula da Silva (Brazil) begun to prepare their ships to send oil, food and medical aid to Cuba. And it also seems like leftist organization, specially the rural ones, also wants to help with food.

Brazil prepares to help Cubans in the face of blackout - OUL (Portuguese Only)

Article Translated

Chancellor Mauro Vieira is negotiating with the Cuban government for Brazil to help with fuel supplies in the face of the energy crisis on the island, which has left Cuba in the grip of a blackout in recent days. On Monday, in New York, the Brazilian minister met with the head of Cuban diplomacy, Bruno Rodriguez Parrill, to discuss the matter.

The idea is to coordinate the shipment of fuel. Vieira returns to Brazil on Wednesday and intends to coordinate the action, with the involvement of other ministries. The foreign minister also used a debate at the UN on Tuesday to call on the US government to end the sanctions against Cuba.

For him, the rejection of the economic embargo against Cuba is practically an international consensus. Vieira also pointed out that Brazil is following with “great concern the current energy emergency in Cuba, aggravated by the embargo and by the recent passage of Hurricane Oscar, which caused human losses and significant destruction in eastern Cuba”.

“I express Brazil's full solidarity with the Cuban people and government in these difficult times, and our sincere condolences to the families of the victims,” he said. To help mitigate this situation, he indicated that the Brazilian government “has activated cooperation and assistance measures, seeking solutions for the supply of fuel and food to the Cuban population through various channels”.

Since September, Brazil has supplied 20,000 tons of rice and 3,116 tons of powdered milk, distributed to the Cuban population to help meet their basic food needs. “It is clear that the severe sanctions unjustifiably imposed on Cuba, both by the embargo and by its inclusion on the list of 'states sponsoring terrorism', have made this situation even worse,” he said.

“These measures, which already unfairly penalize the Cuban people, now prevent an adequate response to the humanitarian crisis generated by the hurricane,” he insisted. “For all these reasons, we urge the United States to reconsider its policy towards Cuba: lift the sanctions, remove Cuba from the list of states sponsoring terrorism and promote a constructive dialogue based on mutual respect and non-interference,” he added.

President of Mexico analyzes sending fuel to Cuba to alleviate blackouts. - CyberCuba

Article

"It is being seen, assistance was provided to Cuba at one point, and it is being evaluated whether fuel assistance is also necessary, as humanitarian aid, and it is help for the Cuban people," Claudia Sheinbaum stated at a press conference.

Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico, announced this Wednesday in a press conference that she is considering supplying fuel to Cuba as a measure to mitigate the series of blackouts that have affected the nation following the collapse of the National Electric System (SEN) last Friday.

"It is being considered, assistance was provided to Cuba at one moment and it is being evaluated whether fuel assistance is also necessary, as humanitarian aid, and it is aid to the Cuban people," the leader remarked.

In 2023, Mexico sent at least 200 million dollars in oil to Cuba, according to estimates from the Energy Institute at the University of Texas, which the EFE agency accessed on September 30 of last year, although Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) denied that it was a donation.

Sheinbaum stated that the current assistance to Cuba has been limited exclusively to "technical support" from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), highlighting the ongoing funding of the Mexican government to the Cuban regime, both under the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and in the current administration.

“We are always going to support, so CFE is in contact through the Foreign Ministry with what the Cuban people require, in order to support them; it is essentially technical assistance,” Sheinbaum emphasized.

More than a third of the island will be without electricity this Wednesday, according to forecasts from the state-owned Unión Eléctrica (UNE) of Cuba, EFE reported.

The energy crisis has intensified since August, and before the total collapse on Friday, supply cuts had already reached historic levels, with maximum impact rates between 41% and 51%.

The blackouts are primarily caused by the scarcity of fuel, resulting from the lack of foreign currency for its importation, and by the constant failures in the old thermal power plants in the country, which have been in operation for more than four decades and suffer from a chronic investment deficit.

Sheinbaum, who assumed the presidency on October 1, has stated on other occasions that her country "always provides humanitarian aid" and that "Mexico has always been against the blockade, except for some presidents during the neoliberal period who decided they had a different stance."

The Government of Mexico announced on Monday its willingness to provide technical support to Cuba, following the massive blackout that left the island without electricity since Friday.

The offer, communicated by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, includes assistance from the CFE, which replaces the Mexican Electricians' Union "Luz y Fuerza del Centro," an old ally of the Cuban regime.

I read in some media that this would be a joint operation with Brazil and Mexico, but others say it will be done separately. In any case, Cuba will receive aid

The Western narrative starts to shift closer to reality, maybe?

nevermind:

spoiler

In return for Mr Zelensky embracing this grim truth, Western leaders need to make his overriding war aim credible by ensuring that Ukraine has the military capacity and security guarantees it needs. If Ukraine can convincingly deny Russia any prospect of advancing further on the battlefield, it will be able to demonstrate the futility of further big offensives. Whether or not a formal peace deal is signed, that is the only way to wind down the fighting and ensure the security on which Ukraine’s prosperity and democracy will ultimately rest.

This will require greater supplies of the weaponry Mr Zelensky is asking for. Ukraine needs long-range missiles that can hit military targets deep in Russia and air defences to protect its infrastructure. Crucially, it also needs to make its own weapons. Today, the country’s arms industry has orders worth $7bn, only about a third of its potential capacity. Weapons firms from America and some European countries have been stepping in; others should, too. The supply of home-made weapons is more dependable and cheaper than Western-made ones. It can also be more innovative. Ukraine has around 250 drone companies, some of them world leaders—including makers of the long-range machines that may have been behind a recent hit on a huge arms dump in Russia’s Tver province.

The second way to make Ukraine’s defence credible is for Mr Biden to say Ukraine must be invited to join NATO now, even if it is divided and, possibly, without a formal armistice. Mr Biden is known to be cautious about this. Such a declaration from him, endorsed by leaders in Britain, France and Germany, would go far beyond today’s open-ended words about an “irrevocable path” to membership.

This would be controversial, because NATO’s members are expected to support each other if one of them is attacked. In opening a debate about this Article 5 guarantee, Mr Biden could make clear that it would not cover Ukrainian territory Russia occupies today, as with East Germany when West Germany joined NATO in 1955; and that Ukraine would not necessarily garrison foreign NATO troops in peacetime, as with Norway in 1949.

NATO membership entails risks. If Russia struck Ukraine again, America could face a terrible dilemma: to back Ukraine and risk war with a nuclear foe; or refuse and weaken its alliances around the world. However, abandoning Ukraine would also weaken all of America’s alliances—one reason China, Iran and North Korea are backing Russia. Mr Putin is clear that he sees the real enemy as the West. It is deluded to think that leaving Ukraine to be defeated will bring peace.

Indeed, a dysfunctional Ukraine could itself become a dangerous neighbour. Already, corruption and nationalism are on the rise. If Ukrainians feel betrayed, Mr Putin may radicalise battle-hardened militias against the West and NATO. He managed something similar in Donbas where, after 2014, he turned some Russian-speaking Ukrainians into partisans ready to go to war against their compatriots. For too long, the West has hidden behind the pretence that if Ukraine set the goals, it would decide what arms to supply. Yet Mr Zelensky cannot define victory without knowing the level of Western support. By contrast, the plan outlined above is self-reinforcing. A firmer promise of NATO membership would help Mr Zelensky redefine victory; a credible war aim would deter Russia; NATO would benefit from Ukraine’s revamped arms industry. Forging a new victory plan asks a lot of Mr Zelensky and Western leaders. But if they demur, they will usher in Ukraine’s defeat. And that would be much worse

While I'm a bit late to comment on this, I am only commenting on things I can actually read first hand given what happened last week. There has been another document leak, this time an apparent draft about a ceasefire deal in South Lebanon. I'll post it below. My opinion: this is a placeholder document that represents what Israel/US and Lebanese government want, it does not reflect the current state of any negotiations/potential negotiations, I repeat: it is merely a placeholder from the 26th of October stating the intentions of the US/Israel and the Lebanese government. Don't believe any claims that state that Hezbollah has agreed to this, that's not what this document is.

DPRK conducted ICBM test-fire on Thursday morning

Pyongyang, October 31 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Ministry of National Defence of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea said in a statement that an ICBM test-fire was conducted on Thursday morning.

The Missile Administration of the DPRK conducted a very crucial test on Thursday. The test-fire, conducted under the order given by the head of state of the DPRK, updated the recent records of the strategic missile capability of the DPRK and demonstrated the modernity and creditability of its world's most powerful strategic deterrent.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said on the spot:

"The test-fire is an appropriate military action that fully meets the purpose of informing the rivals, who have intentionally escalated the regional situation and posed a threat to the security of our Republic recently, of our counteraction will, and it also constitutes an indispensable process in the course of constantly developing our state's strategic attack forces. As recently witnessed by us, the rivals' dangerous tightening of their nuclear alliance and various adventuristic military maneuvers go to further highlight the importance of strengthening our nuclear forces. We should never allow any threat to approach the security sphere under our state's influence. The security situation of our state and ever-aggravating prospective threats and challenges require us to continue to bolster up our modern strategic attack forces and more perfectly round off our nuclear forces' response posture. I affirm that the DPRK will never change its line of bolstering up its nuclear forces." -0-

I saw yesterday that NATO has decided to make it official canon that Korean troops are part of the Russian coalition in Ukraine. They have also updated the official NATO number of Russian casualties to 600.000.

The official story is something along the line of Russia now needing Korean soldiers because they're running over of Russian.

No link (I'm a lib), just wanted to make an update about the reality our leaders inhabit.

Iran plans to increase military budget by 200%

Good for them if its 'financed' through deficits than cutting other sectors or raising taxes on the poor. I know military is a 'waste' of resources in that it doesn't produce anything regular people need but the threat of Israel is real kelly. And Iran has a unemployment and underemployment problem. Its not comparable to the parasitic U.S. MIC. Though, I guess there is risk of inflation in certain sectors given the sanctions.
