By who? Darren from Essex who drives a van, voted for Brexit, and thinks that immigrants would be OK if they came here to work rather than just stealing our jobs?

Soho is mostly pedestrianised as it is. Few people would drive there in the best of times, with the lack of parking, as the city is far too dense to accommodate that. Pedestrianising it (with common-sense exemptions for cabs, delivery vehicles and such where needed) would merely tidy up the status quo.

local tory councilors predictably enough

Personally I think it would make sense. It's ridiculous that people are driving through it as it is.

Some tory is mad about it because the scheme to do it also looks like a power grab by Sadiq. If it was a tory mayor proposing it, he'd probably be in favour like everyone else.

Given that we're talking about streets where people generally walk down the middle of the road at all times of day and look askance at anyone driving there, I think pedestrianisation is a great idea
