I mean it’s probably a sick as fuck game, but I watched some shit and read about it and it doesn’t sound anything like Pokémon and has none of the things in it that are the reason people like Pokémon play Pokémon. Seems like a regular JRPG with a unique battle system.

These are the exact same reasons I was a little resistant when people would say Kor is a "pokemon-like" game. Like, visually it looks that way, but the combat system and gameplay are totally different.
This game doesn’t even visually look like Pokémon honestly.
As the player traverse the various planets, they are frequently transported into space to pilot the Krill defense fleet surrounding each planet. The ships are biological in nature and semiautonomous: they only require a pilot when they sense danger. In most battles, the player are required to shoot down a certain number of enemies to end the sequence.
This is a cool as fuck premise, ngl.
Another older RPG Pokemon fans might have missed out on is Fossil Fighters. Love that series. Not good exactly but right out of the period where creature collectors were big. Also the plot is zany fun.
