I really enjoy Caves of Qud. But it's not retro in any sense. I'd argue it doesn't even feel retro.

I would say its mostly inspired by Gamma World. Like its nearly, very nearly, as 1:1 as you can reasonably expect. God I miss playing Gamma World.

If you like Dwarf Fortress's adventure mode, and don't mind a swap to a high sci fi setting: please give this game a shot, it's the cheapest price it has had so far

Calling it d&d inspired is so misleading, even if it might be true. It has absolutely nothing in common with d&d
