I picture the chicken coming back at the most inopportune times and the players getting increasingly numb to brutally offing it in the quickest way possible.

You are not far at all. They just tried to cut its vocal cords and succeeded XD

How long before a swarm of undead cuckoos ala Zelda comes at them?

[–] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 4 points 1 year ago

Nah, one is enough to ruin their stealth... well, it was, until they cut its vocal cords and kept him alive to keep him from getting then back XD

Is the chicken by chance inspired by the turkey from The Gamers: Darkness Rising?

[–] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 3 points 1 year ago

Nope. Its from an old post of reddit about a mysterious unkillable chicken.

Had the idea to do something similar with my group, then rejected the idea because I feared that this would become annoying for them over time. Did the chicken work out long-term at your table without causing annoyance?

Were at session 2, and if they get actually annoyed they can get rid of it. They just need to find how
