As long as Russia has enough troops willing to fight to force the rest to advance at gunpoint, they can go on in some capacity.

Can you blame them? The USA has been developing their weapon systems for the past 60 years in response this exact "Russian Horde" scenario.

Chances of survival are slim.

It turns out that our best rival was a paper Tiger, and that we were competing with ourselves the entire time. I guess the real weapon systems were the friends we made along the way.

It has been known for a while that Russian troop morale is very low

yeah. Mister Herr Tsar had that problem.
