DDL said himself that he was retired. The other terms wouldn't apply at the time.
At 60, planning to not act again, I'd call it a retirement. He obviously was happy to cone back to support his son, but people can come out of retirement, if they retired. People change their minds.
I agree, more people come out of retirement in the entertainment industry, but I think that's by its nature. It attracts creatives who enjoy the creative output.
Just when I thought I was out, the nepotism pulls me back in.
