On the list of Magazines at the top of the screen is an option for Favourites - I cannot figure out how to add Magazines to this list, does anyone know?

As far as I know favorites list what you’ve upvoted. The list of your subscriptions is located in your profile screen.

Hi

That's the Favourites at the bottom of the screen under the comment box I think you're referring to, I'm referring to the list that appears right at the top of the screen. It seems to be mostly filled with random magazines but on the left hand side are four items that seem to be groups of magazines;

So you have All, Subscribed, Moderated and Favourites, assuming Favourites should work like the others (ie a group of magazines related by the heading title) then I assume Favourites would be a self built group of Magazines that you want to see with one click.

I think this is a holdover. If I remember, the functionality of boost and upvote were switched around on kbin to be consistent with Lemmy. (I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong.)

  • favorites aka bookmarks in functionality, meaning no "karma" and showing up in your favorites - this now happens when you "upvote" something, leading to a confusing "favorites" experience and lack of "karma" when upvoting
  • karma giving (what reddit calls "upvotes") - these are now called "boosts"

Basically a lot of weirdness because the two functionalities were swapped without consideration of all the surrounding functionality.

Looking at it further - hovering over the "upvote" button does indeed say "Favourite" so it seems to be more of an "expected functionality based on what the thing is called" vs "actual functionality". I would never expect an upvote to be a "favorite" from a user experience perspective.

Turns out you were right, I found the Quickstart magazine yesterday and upvoted Threads are collected in the Favourites at the top of the screen and upvoted comments in the one at the bottom (maybe - still not sure about that as it doesn't seem to make much sense) - seems a combination of good idea and also slightly screwy, I'd prefer to have a Favourites collection of Magazines that I build myself.
