Place is super gutted out by tech and finance, I think Oakland still has some interesting stuff/culture but it's hard to find good vibes

The queer POC art + music/party scene in SF is the only place I've found that's consistently cool

The queer scene in general is super white and sometimes very liberal (racist) and the art/music/party scene in general is pretty corporatized. The white queer artist crowd is cool and not liberal but still has lots of whiteness that a lot of POC people here don't like

And a lot of POC events are just networking events for professionals

Tbh I was happier seeing google and gitlab billboards over the thousands of personal injury lawyer billboards in my area.

If OP (or anyone else in SF) finds someone named Gabriel Bell, or is named Gabriel Bell, or has the ability to change their name to Gabriel Bell, or is willing to use the nom de guerre Gabriel Bell, they have a duty to start the Bell riots.

That man was Gabriel Bell

I like Ocean Beach a lot. The Riptide on Taraval is a great bar within a stone's throw. Toyose on Noriega out by the beach is an awesome Korean restaurant.

I love SF because it's one of the most interesting looking cities in the US with some of the best weather (I like it cold). Shame it's so expensive.

Same, I love San Francisco and would love to live there if not for the price. Oakland isn’t as horrible though.

Oakland is still insanely expensive if you're trying to buy a decent house. Even if it isn't decent.

Oh of course, but for the bay it’s slightly better.

I agree with your second paragraph. I visited years ago for a day or two and the city basically seemed empty to me, which I found weird. Just not a lot of people were around. It’s very different from a place like NYC, which is completely packed.

it never really recovered from the stay-at-home order, not that it could compare to NYC anyway

Try the cable car, it's a wonderful experience and the only part of the city that still has a soul

Sorry to hear that, hope you get out of there soon.

I was there earlier this year and its really something else coming from smaller Midwest cities. They have so many trains it is wonderful. Really good sushi but I like the taste of mercury so I may be biased.
