I've been told I've got an overly broad sense of taste. I like a lot of different types of food. This is my take on an avocado smash. I add a base of cream cheese and top with fresh ground pepper. Could someone make this and provide feedback? Thank you (toast is fine I just prefer my homemade lintel wafers)

You’re never going to own a house like that.

I bought during the Clinton administration.😁

Avocado doesn’t go with cream cheese, they’re both rich in fats. You want to let the avocado shine through.

Salt and pepper are good, but I like to add something with sweetness or acidity such as tomatoes or balsamic vinegar.

I'd scarf that so quickly, you'd ask me if I'd actually tasted it.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow - anniversary dinner in a couple hours.

Nah, I'd happily have one - some people are very picky and reluctant to try new things, and aren't always even aware of it.

Since you're asking for feedback, though, my first impression is that the cream cheese is not bad, but may be redundant - the avocado is already covering you on fat and creaminess. The cream cheese I know doesn't seem like it would add anything. The dish probably needs acidity, but cream cheese is too mild. I don't recognize your lentil bread, but this should work on anything that can go crispy, since the rest is soft and creamy.

How about mixing citrus juice into the avo, or just going full guac? I would switch the dairy from cheese to maybe some sour cream/Latin-style crema/yoghurt drizzled over top - or making it a hard cheese like parmesan or pecorino. You can also use citrus zest for both flavor and garnish.

I personally think that's way to much pepper but other than that this looks really good.

Drop the cheese, add a squeeze of lemon, and maybe a bit of salt

I'm a huge fan of black pepper, and it looks great. I know a lot of people who would say that's too much though.

I definitely am going to try this. It sounds bomb as is, but also very open to having other additions for even more flavor synergy. 🤤

What's a lintel wafer, though? Thought it was a bagel from the image, but I want the full experience and I've never heard of those.

In a blender 2 cups red lintels, 4.5 cups water, 2 TBS coconut floor, soak overnight, add 2 eggs, 1/2 cup olive oil, 2 tsp baking powder, blend, cook in small waffle maker for 15 min. Edit: keto friendly

Ahhh. You meant lentils. Kept getting confused looking up "lintel" because apparently that's some kind of masonry lol

I would eat this in a heartbeat. I could also add some smoked salmon, capers, onions, a fried egg, and/or tomatoes. Or just like you made it! Don't let other people bring down your creativity in the kitchen. If you like it, you like it!

Can validate, this not avocado toast, but avocado waffers!

As others have said, ditch the cream cheese. It needs an acid like lemon juice or red wine vinegar. I would reduce the black pepper and add something with more flavour like red chile or jalapeños. I also like to top it with fresh whole cilantro or parsley for both flavour and texture. You could also use something like diced radish.

Pickled red onions are also easy and will take you far.

It looks great, though a bit heavy on the pepper for me. I make one very similar with cream cheese, avo, salt and pepper, and then a few shakes of Valentina hot sauce. That gives it the bite or acid that people say is missing. Enjoy your snack!
