Easy solution: get a cat (or several). You'll either attribute every suspect noise to them or you can observe their reaction in case it happens again.

Problem for me is hearing a random noise in the kitchen and seeing both my cats with me.

This seems likely, it's my understanding this is how the cat distribution system works.

According to Pixie and Brutus / Litterbox, they just show up!

You could always just assume they shoved something to the edge of the counter and it finally fell in. Besides, if it were important, they'd get up to investigate

I have done ths. Weird sounds happening and the cat is acting fine. If the cat is not worried neither am I.

I got a Chihuahua instead. If it's something out of the ordinary, she'll bark. Oh, she will certainly bark.

My cat growls if someone is at the door. I don't worry about shit. It's great.

It's all fun and games until every door in your house slams at 5 in the morning like mine did ~~last night~~

Edited to make sense

Well there's your problem.

Back in my more religious days, I used to go to a church down the road. One night 2 of the church members where cleaning the church. Mind you, small church, it was just the 2 of them. There are 2 doors on either side of the (main room?), where the preacher stands. The 2 doors were swinging doors, swing both ways. They randomly started swinging hard, bashing the walls simultaneously for 15-20 seconds. They ran out of the church and called their fathers. These are also my family members and I heard the story from multiple sources.

I also have another short weirdness from this church. We were feeding and hosting homeless people for a night. While standing and talking to one of the other church members, this door on the side of the building opened. Now, this door has an "outside hallway", spanning 15 feet and covered on all sides.

The door opened. I looked outside immediately, nobody there. It opens again after closing. I stick my head out, nobody there. It happens a third time, and mind you, the 2nd time I closed the door, I tested the latch and it was secure.. only a good turning of the door knob would open this door. The third time it opened, the fellow church member and I were staring at the knob, and saw it turn then the door opened. Again, no one was there.

Sounds interesting. Have you tried to film it?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

We had the windows open because it was a nice, cool night and then a thunderstorm came in with a gust of wind.

Ghasts and ghosts.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

5 is definitely night time in my world.

[–] numberfour002@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'll drink to that. It's never anything interesting anyway. Always something mundane like evil "booing" or scraping noises from the basement. I ain't got time to stress with the devil's mess.

"Either haunt quieter or start paying rent!"

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Ok, but what's the conversion rate for blood drenched gold doubloons?

[–] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 16 points 3 months ago

Its the noise that cried wolf. I'm in bed, I'm not getting up anymore to go find nothing waiting to kill me. Whatever it was will have to come to me if it wants me dead.

[–] motor_spirit@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

huge vibe shift, hope everybody survives

This is me with the fire alarm.

"Did the neighbors set it off?"

"Was it a ghost that has been haunting me?"

"Did a bunch of mischievous playing a prank of me"

"Better wait and see if it's an actual real emergency."

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

You're gonna carry that weight.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

[–] nyahlathotep@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Their point is they no longer care
