“[F]or a comment. This is ridiculous, for a comment,” he allegedly said. “I guess I’m gonna need a lawyer.”

The comment:

Carillo in one post said Harris doesn’t “have a snowballs chance in hell which is exactly where you’re going and soon. I will cut your eyes out of your FUCKING head” and “will make sure you suffer a slow agonizing death."

He said he would “personally” set Harris on fire “if no one else does."

Carillo said Harris is “going to regret ever trying to become president because if that ever happened I will personally pluck out her eyes with a pair of pliers but first I will shoot and kill everyone that gets in my way that is a fucking promise.”

What is it that this person believes she has done that deserves such a horrible death? It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around why someone thinks like this

[–] protist@mander.xyz 201 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There's been a coordinated campaign of dehumanization in the right-wing media for decades. This guy has been indoctrinated to see her as the enemy and to not see her as a person

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 59 points 3 months ago (5 children)

Even the most evil people I can think of. The most I'd want them to "suffer" is the realization of how terrible they are, before they enter the void. I don't want them tortured. I don't want to hurt them. I just want them to not exist.

The "comments" this guy made are psychotic. I don't mean that in a hyperbolic kind of way. I mean in a "danger to society" kind of way.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 25 points 3 months ago

Yep. I've written my fair share of angry opinionated comments. I managed to do it without threatening death on any elected officials though, or of anyone at all, and I especially did not do so while also claiming to be a member of the "law and order" party. Somehow, no matter how angry I got, I was able to recognize that assassination was probably not a good line to cross, even in rhetoric.

I used to hear this kind of shit all the time when I had a trumper as a supervisor. I almost did call the feds once when he and several other people were talking about shooting people for living in a city. One of them had just bought a gun and was in the waiting period. It's obviously just shit talk, but I should have burned them for being pieces of shit.

Like who would have thought that writing shit like this UNDER YOUR OFFICIAL NAME would have consequences?

[–] WilloftheWest 20 points 3 months ago

”For a comment.”

In this day and age, who hasn’t made incredibly specific ultraviolent threats against an elected official while constantly reassuring others that they are serious/making a promise to enact these threats? Did this upstanding citizen simply forget to cite his first amendment rights to the agents?

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

"I thought this was America where we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH to just comment on how we're going to torture, mutilate, and kill presidential candidates, not some communist fascist dictatorship. Except if you talk bad about Trump, you'll get killed for that." –Somebody somewhere

They've really normalized this shit to the point they don't understand why it's wrong...

It's just like 1/6, there's a few that are serious and dangerous, and they're hiding among a large group of fucking idiots and using them as human shields.

Normalizing violence is something fascists always do before the actual violence, they're getting people desensitized to the idea of it.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 47 points 3 months ago

they've never understood it to BE wrong, much less why. all they know is the fear mongering rhetoric of "they're coming to take your guns, turn your kids gay, and forcibly terminate your pregnancies" along with the whole "you're not a real man if you're not violent" ideal, since the GOP stance can't win on policy

Turns out violent threats are not protected speech under the first amendment. Who knew?!

Fuck around and find out.

Imagine the level of training to attain such a perspective:

Hoist with his own Google review:

Ouch, the stupid:

approximately 4,359 posts/replies

Give or take

Good job FBI, who knows whether he was serious but there’s a reason there’s an exact statute for this and he actually had weapons - not a good look buddy.

[–] Lets_Eat_Grandma@lemm.ee 44 points 3 months ago

I feel like after one threat like this you shouldn't legally be allowed to own weapons.

If found with an illegal weapon after these statements should be recited in front of a judge/jury during trial so they know why the person shouldn't be allowed to have it. These kinds of threats are not things that normal, rational people make.

[–] Xtallll@lemmy.blahaj.zone 44 points 3 months ago (3 children)

"Based on training and experience" is "because fucking obviously" but will hold up in court.

Lucky that the investigator had that tech training or the suspect could have slipped away

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

I imagine they cranked into high gear after someone took a shot at Trump. Assassination attempts tend to beget more.

Tangential but also relevant; I worked in a larger construction company until a year ago and it was multi state. Imagine my surprise when word spread that the FBI was looking for an employee in another department regarding 1/6. Before Jan 6 he had been filmed jumping up on a table at the local Costco with a megaphone and spewing filth.

There are always signs.

This is why you only threaten politicians that are already dead.

For example, pissing on Ronald Reagan's grave, the deceased shitty actor just to be clear, is still on my bucket list.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (4 children)

When I was a teenager I made an email address, ishotreagan@emailprovider.com, inspired by the suicidal tendencies song. Years later in my late 20s or early 30s the secret service showed up at my door to ask about it. I had nearly forgotten I even made it by then. I don't remember if Reagan was dead yet but he was on his llast legs. I guess they're super thorough when it comes to anything other than that one roof near Trump's rally

No word on whether they investigated Mike Muir in the 80s when the song was written and Reagan was still alive/relevant

For these mouth-breathers, "'Murica! Freeeedum!" means:
Whatever lazy, angry, ignorant, all-viscera-no-brains image I cooked up while living alone and bitter in a neglected and crumbling old house with a few "KEEP OUT!"/"TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT" signs around the goddamned perimeter.

Their tiny little minds live in a tiny, narrow and flat, miserable little world. And here's the kicker - that's the way they want it, out of sheer lazy inertia.
